Female First is proud to deliver exclusively to readers today the brand new music video for Tara Priya’s latest single, ‘Fascinate Ya’.
As the follow-up to Priya’s EP ‘Friends Like These’, the singer is hoping to impress with her incomparable vocal ability, sliding her sultry and ethereal sound over the pop-soul feel of the piece. Those looking to feel something when they listen to new music need look no further.
Born in San Francisco to a Persian mother and niece to lauded poet and modernist painter Sohrab Sepehri, along with actor Reza Kianian, Tara began to train in both opera and jazz from the age of 11. Spending two years of her later life at Columbia University, she traded New York for Los Angeles, singing hooks on rap demos in underground studios in exchange for recording time on her own material.
Tara was later discovered in a vinyl record shop in Kobe, Japan by indie tastemaker P-Vine Records, who found and listened to her first self-release, which she not only sang on, but both wrote and co-produced.
That record was subsequently released in Japan, soaring to the top of the iTunes chart and debuting at Number 2, whilst also hitting Number 6 on the Billboard Japan airplay charts. At that point, collaborations with London producer Steve Booker came about, which led to Tara’s love for the east London music scene. In 2014, she decided to up sticks and move to London, and as they say, the rest is history.
Using FKA Twigs, Lauryn Hill, M.I.A. and a whole bunch of other inspirations to influence and create her work, Tara Priya continues to go from strength to strength. Whilst she’s many years into her career, it feels as if this is just the start for a woman who could go on to become one of the most celebrated artists of the modern era.
