Prince took to the stage with 3RDEYEGIRL at the world famous jazz club Ronnie Scotts in London last night, and shocked the crowd when he changed up the musical presentation of his set to fit the venue.
A two hour set saw jazz and funk brought to the limelight, far from the rock shows he and the band have been playing on their string of tour dates so far.
A crowd of famous faces including Adele, Kate Moss, Cara Delevigne, Noel Gallagher and Nile Rogers joined fans who had been queuing since 6am the same morning for the spectacular show, and were left impressed by the extravaganza.
Prince didn't hit the stage until midnight, and took to the piano for an instrumental jazz funk set where he was joined by guitarist Donna Grantis, bassist Ida Nielsen and drummer Hannah Ford Welton who make up his all-female band 3RDEYEGIRL.
Special guest Marcus Anderson - saxophonist - also joined the trio and music icon on stage.
Not only did his style change, but a completely new setlist for the 'Hit and Run' tour was performed with catalogue classics added next to surprises including 'Raspberry Beret' and 'Take Me With U'.
An encore of 'Diamonds and Pearls' saw the audience take care of the chorus, and he delighted the crowd when he performed 'The Most Beautiful girl in the World' and 'How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore' solo at the piano, before bringing his band back to close the spectacle with a jazz rock version of 'Something in the Water', infused with The Waterboys' 'Whole of the Moon' and finishing up with the iconic 'Purple Rain'.
A short patron changeover later, and Prince took to the stage once more with the band for a second set to play for more eager fans.
More live dates are to be announced soon, with a visit to Manchester on the 'Hit and Run' tour to-do list.
Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL's 'PRETZELBODYLOGIC' is available now.
