Katy Perry hopes to be a Roaring success

This year's a big one for the People's Choice as it marks its 40th anniversary.

With Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake leading the pack in the music-based categories, it's hard not to think they'll get the job done and take most, if not all of the accolades home that they're nominated for.

It's been a brilliant few months for Katy, with the massive success of her third album's debut single Roar and a fantastic music video to boot.

The prince of pop Justin Timberlake made his comeback with two volumes of The 20/20 Experience - an exciting new record - and he's been rewarded accordingly with hat tips in the Favourite Male Artist, Favourite Pop Artist, Favourite R&B Artist, Favourite Song and Favourite Album categories.

Icona Pop could take the Favourite Breakout Artist award

Lorde and Icona Pop are just a couple of the artists who broke out onto the scene this past year, and it'll be interesting to see just who's garnered the most interest in the quickest time - our money's on the New Zealander who sent the world wild with Royals.

Miley Cyrus should also do well - she's had the world talking not just about her music, but her controversial nature for quite some time now.

A back-to-back year-on-year win for Favourite R&B Artist would be great news for Rihanna, who's rumoured to be in the studio working on her next hugely anticipated album, and we think she might just do it after huge ballad Stay ruled the 2013 airwaves.

Will Rihanna take Favourite R&B Artist for the second year running?

The People's Choice Awards 2014 airs tomorrow - Wednesday January 8 - at 9/8c on CBS.
