The 21st century has been a cracking era for music already even though we’re only 13 years in. We’re taking a look at 10 of the best 21st-century albums to date as we take a nostalgic trip back 13 years.
10. James Blunt – Back to Bedlam
Love him or hate him, this ex-army man stunned us with his falsetto-like vocals and ballad hits, including Goodbye My Lover and You're Beautiful, on his debut album.
9. Maroon 5 – Songs About Jane
Maroon 5 brought groove back into the music charts with hits including This Love and She Will Be Loved. The American band have capitalised on their success since with hit after hit.
8. Keane – Hopes and Fears
This Britpop band stormed onto the charts with their debut album Hopes and Fears. The album has sold almost 3 million copies in the UK and includes top 10 hits Somewhere Only We Know and Everybody’s Changing.
7. Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head
This was the album that catapulted Coldplay onto the world stage despite their earlier success with Yellow. Hits include The Scientist and Clocks, and the album was recently voted the best album of all time by BBC Radio 2 listeners.
6. Take That – Beautiful World
The reunited Take That was a musical moment to remember and their album Beautiful World was a massive success. Lead track Patience shot to number one in the UK and the band didn’t seem to miss Robbie Williams.
5. The Killers – Hot Fuss
The Las Vegas band released their debut album in 2004 and their hits Mr Brightside and Somebody Told Me became iconic hits of the noughties decade. This album is remarkable from start to finish and has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.
4. Snow Patrol – Eyes Open
Another iconic hit of the noughties came from Snow Patrol’s second successful album Eyes Open. The Scottish-based band had global success with their hit Chasing Cars.
3. Kings of Leon – Only By the Night
The American rockers’ fourth album saw them rise to success off the back of their massive hits Sex On Fire and Use Somebody. The album sold over 220,000 copies within the first week of its release alone in the UK.
2. Amy Winehouse – Back to Black
2011 saw the tragic premature death of this successful singer. Her second album Back to Black is still a massive success and is frequently cited as one of the best albums of all time. Hits included Rehab and Tears Dry On Their Own.
1. Adele – 21
One of the best-selling albums of the 21st century so far, Adele’s second album 21 is also the fourth best-selling album of all time in the UK, selling over 4.5 million copies.
Adele won six Grammy Awards and two Brits after its release as well as receiving number one success with Someone Like You.
