There was a lot of splitting and rekindling of flames in 2010, and as usual, fans were left devastated and over the moon with the various bits of news from their favourite bands.
The main (and most exciting news of all) was that we had Take That and Blink 182 reforming, but that's SO exciting that we've decided to give them whole articles to themselves, so here I take a look at some of the other goings on this year.
Break Up's
Girls Can't Catch
The girls and their amazing summer anthem "Echo" is still on about four of my 'driving CD's' and since the release of the track, I've spent many a hour wailing out the lyrics whilst stuck in traffic jams / zooming along the motorway / driving to the co-op for milk. I just loved it, so why they've gone and split up is baffling to me.
Okay, well I suppose it doesn't really do you many favours if you only have one fan, but they did manage to get to number 19 on the UK Top 40 singles chart, so someone else much have liked them?
Sadly they were dropped by their record company, Polydor Records, on 12 July 2010 and disbanded a day later.
Supergrass
The Supergrass boys called it a day on 12 April 2010 citing musical and creative differences. We cried for a bit and then spent the rest of the afternoon listening to all their albums in chronological order.
With four albums AND a singles compilation by the time the band was 10 years old, they hadn't done too bad for themselves and they didn't stop there, oh no, these guys were grafters, they brought out studio album number five and six before ending their contract with EMI and signing to Cooking Vinyl in August 2009.
Apparently they were busy working on an album for 2011, but after announcing their split after a series of farewell gigs, it was clearly never meant to be.
Vagabond
We really <3 Vagabond, so much so that their single, "Don't Wanna Run No More" is on about six of my car CD's… hold on, I'm noticing a pattern here, I wonder if "Ruth's Driving CD" is cursed…?
Anyway, the boys came into FemaleFirst and did a takeover to promote their debut album, You Don't Know the Half of It, at the end of last year, and to be fair, it was pretty good.
It looks as though hanging out with us, being featured as The Guardian's "New Band Of The Day" and the frontman (allegedly) dating Alesha Dixon just wasn’t enough to get these guys to the top of the chats though, as they failed to make an impression on the charts and on February 16, announced they had split amicably. Sob.
Mini Viva
Mini Viva never really stuck fire into our bellies, in fact, that "Left My Heart In Tokyo" song used to really get on my nerves when it would come on about five times every sing night I went to the gym.
It seems I wasn’t the only one who got a bit fed up of them either; even after blagging support slots on The Saturdays and Diversity tours, they still ended up splitting after their second single, "I Wish", peaked at number 73and the follow-up, "One Touch", only made it to 114. Ouch. Unsurprisingly the band were dropped shortly after.
According to Wikipedia; "The girls plan to go on with their music careers. Sadly, it will be apart." Yeah, good luck with that.
