Meli'sa Morgan is one of the most recognisable names in soul music, and this November she'll join some other big stars at Wembley for the star-studded Voices of Soul event.
Fronted by the likes of Meli'sa alongside Patti LaBelle, The Whispers and Soul II Soul, the award-winning stars at this once-in-a-lifetime gig are gearing up to bring the house down at the SSE Arena.
We got the chance to catch up with Meli'sa and find out about her top 10 career moments to-date. (Though she found it tough whittling them down and promises there are many more!)
- At 16, having a #1 dance hit with 'Body To Body'.
- Being accepted into Juilliard's School of Music and actually studying and understanding chordal structure and harmonies. Then leaving 'cause I got a call to tour with Chaka Khan!
- Meeting my idol Chaka Khan and touring and singing background for her for a year! Also designing clothes for her during the tour. A very memorable moment in my career.
- Recording and touring with Kashif and opening up for Gladys Knight on Broadway, where I was approached to sign my own solo deal.
- Signing that solo deal and recording in the studio - it was a magical time for great R&B music and I was a part of that!
- Hearing 'Do Me Baby' on the radio for the first time!
- Going to the Grammy Awards with Freddie Jackson for the first time and our photo being in People Magazine.
- Celebrating 'Do Me Baby' going #1 for four weeks! Meeting Prince and hearing him say; 'Thank you for making 'Do Me Baby' a great song!' I was so nervous meeting him for the first time!
- Recently taping and shooting my episode of Unsung. It was a wonderful experience and remembering all the history of my career was amazing and great therapy for me. I had not acknowledged the things I had accomplished... It gave me great pride to look back and see that I have left a little legacy with my career. Humbly grateful!
- The call from Europe recently letting me know that I was on the tour in the UK this November! Performing at Wembley Arena! I have lOVED Patti LaBelle always! Have many beautiful stories to tell... We opened for Patti when I toured with Kashi! So, I know this whole tour and experience will give me many more memorable moments - so stay tuned!
