Every New Year brings good intentions and new resolutions – some kept and many broken… but for now; gyms are full, pubs are stocking up on non-alcoholic beer and everyone is off puddings.

But never fear - the fun is not completely over. 2014 has a lot to offer –lots of new music and some long awaited new albums from old favourites. In fact, let’s give up on giving things up this year.... Let’s take up. Take up some more music.

First off, and hotly tipped by Radio One’s Huw Stephens, is the band Longfellow. Rightly described as anthemic, feel good pop, their first single ‘Siamese Lover’ - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dF6SOF7GTkU is set for release on the 27th January with a gig at 'The Lexington' in Kings Cross to follow on 30th.

Every Friday in January also sees NME host its ‘Introducing at Club NME’ at Koko in Camden. This Friday ‘Amber Run’ are playing supported by ‘Beaty Heart’. This soft folk-rock band have some beautiful harmonies Marcus Mumford would be proud of on their EP ‘Noah’.

Now, every year needs a handsome man with a guitar and in 2014 'George Ezra' is our man. His beautiful voice is like being transported to the deep AmericanSouth, and it doesn’t hurt he has an equally beautiful face.... He is touring the UK in February and March this year.

From across the Atlantic comes ‘Banks’, bringing us some soft R & B coupled with crushing lyrics. ‘Waiting Game’ is an addictive and haunting listen - https://soundcloud.com/banksbanksbanks/banks-waiting-game-prod-by

If new bands are not your thing, Bruce Springsteen's odds & sods album, ‘High Hopes’ was released on January 14th, featuring some never heard before gems. U2 are also set to release another album this year, as are the Foo Fighters.

But surely, the most anticipated album of 2014 is from the mega star and all round superwomen Adele. After 10 million copies of ‘21’ were sold in America alone, there may be a lot of expectation, but we all know that our girl from Tottenham will deliver.
Now that is something to get excited about.
