22-year-old folk musician Kaia Kater is one of the most exciting singers in the industry today, and we couldn't be happier to be bringing you the exclusive music video premiere for her track 'Nine Pin'.
Releasing an album of the same name in the UK on September 2, Kaia was born in Quebec of Afro-Caribbean descent, growing up between two worlds with her family's deep ties to Canadian folk music.
In other years she studied and learned Appalachian music in West Virginia, and all those influences have been driven straight into her new record, which aims to cast an unflinching eye at the realities faced by people of colour in North America to this day.
Fuelled by her rich low tenor vocals, jazz-influenced instrumentation and passion to share her talents with the world, her lyrics have got as much in common right now with Kendrick Lamar as they do with Pete Seeger.
Recorded in Toronto, the album was completed in a single day and produced by both Katen and acclaimed Canadian artist Chris Bartos, who also produced her previous record 'Sorror Bound'.
Kater comments: "This album was written to be something to listen to from start to finish."
