Swedish artist Bonander is a musician unafraid to challenge gender conformity, and that’s never been more apparent than it is on their brilliant new single Quit Everything And Become A Princess. This week, we’ve got the exclusive premiere for the fantastic music video for the track, which you’ll be able to check out a little bit further down! Chatting about the video’s creation, Bonander says: “We created a silver and white aesthetic for this video. For me it’s about freedom, release and empowerment. A dance in a dreamy silverland, where I can be somebody else, and yet precisely myself, for a while.”
The songwriter also says of the tune, which is written for all the female and non-binary people who feel constrained by the societal construction of gender: “I often feel trapped in how I behave and act in life because of my gender and I know I’m not the only one.”

Directed by Henric at Studio Pop, the video had a whole host of incredible talents working behind-the-scenes. Julia Bengtsson served as make-up and choreography assistant, with Elias Ortiz co-producing the music, Ljudbildsverket mixing, Nutid Studios mastering, Olov Domeij on bass, Elias Ortiz on drums, and Linnea Svedmyr working on keys alongside Bonander herself.
Bonander is no stranger to tackling tough topics, and spent the back-end of last year calling out the alt-right with her single The Oracle. Speaking about that track, she said: “I wrote The Oracle one day when I was particularly frustrated about the normalisation of racism in Sweden (and other parts of the world). We disguise racist politics behind fancy words and hollow arguments and it is our responsibility to do something.”
