The Backstreet Boys mark their twentieth anniversary today, and the five guys will be celebrating the landmark with an event at the Fonda Theatre, which will handily also be streaming live across the internet.
Over the years, they were easily the largest boy band in the world, selling over a hundred million albums worldwide and selling out tours time after time all across the globe.
To celebrate our favourite American boy band of the era, we racked our brains to come up with our favourite seven Backstreet Boys singles that have hit the charts over their mighty career.
7) Shape Of My Heart
The first single from the album 'Black & Blue' was also the best to be released from the group's second biggest selling album, as this song about seeking redemption in a relationship kept the guys very much on a high after the insane success of 'Millennium' and proved once again that they reallt were the masters of the sweet natured ballad.
6) Larger Than Life
It’s hard work following up the mammoth best seller that was ‘I Want It That Way’ but thankfully the guys went slightly different with their next single release, unleashing this lively and incredibly catchy song. The video may have aged worse than milk left out in the sun, but the track itself still makes us do our best stupid robot dance and not give a damn about what anyone thinks about it.
5) I Want It That Way
The song that gave the band their only UK number one and fuelled the gargantuan sales of their album 'Millennium', this is easily the single most successful single the band released both commercially and critically, with the song earning the group nominations for both 'Record Of The Year' and 'Song Of The Year' nominations at that year's Grammys and reached the top spot of the charts in more than 25 different countries around the world.
4) Incomplete
This cut from the band's fifth album Never Gone, proved that some of the strongest material from the buys came during a time when their popularity was beginning to slide. One of the most mature singles the group released, this piano led song incorporated a swooping sting section that really gave a great, grand feeling. Also, having AJ lead the line for once is a decision that seems wiser with each passing verse.
3) Everybody (Backstreets Back)
The song that made The Backstreet Boys the biggest boy band out there, this is still the song that so many of us first think of when we hear the name of The Backstreet Boys. Despite being nearly old enough to have a driving license, this song is still an insane amount of fun that will always have us remembering the good ol' days of the late nineties.
2) Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely
One of the saddest songs that the guys put out there is also one of the best, as this track lifted from their third album Millennium (arguably their best album) still hits exactly the right notes a decade after it was first released. With a lovely twist of Spanish guitar throughout, it’s the perfect antidote to their cheerier collection of tunes and hasn't aged a day.
1) As Long As You Love Me
Still sounding fresh enough to be in the charts right now, this just about won the tussle to claim the crown as our best Backstreet Boys track thanks to its incredibly catchy chorus, and incredibly sweet lyrics that remind us time after time why the guys still hold a place in our musical hearts. That it was never officially released as single in the US is still a decision that boggles our brains.
