Sergeant

Sergeant

Take four young lads from the middle of nowhere, throw in a shared love of classic 90s sounds and some pretty fine threads and haircuts and what do you have? Simple – some of the most exciting, jangly, guitar-driven summer sounds since Manchester came alive in a drug-fuelled blaze of love and loud music.

Sergeant comprise of Nick Mercer (vocals), Scott Duncan (Guitars), Bill Anderson (Bass) and Rory Buchanan (Drums) all of whom met at school - "We were always that little bit different at school," says Nick. "I suppose we kind of stood out from everybody else. We were 10 or 11 in the mid-90s and listening to bands like Oasis, The Verve and Stone Roses while everybody else our age was into silly pop stuff. Our attitude was different and we spotted each other from afar and naturally came together.”

It was this affinity with one another that led to a major label deal early on in their career but like many young bands it wasn’t right for them and they decided to walk away from their deal to embody the true spirit of independence and began their own label ‘Shy Recordings’ which will release their debut self titled album.

Recorded at Rockfield, Rak and Abbey Road studios with legendary producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead, The Verve) the album will be released on 5th October. Since taking the independent route their ascent has continued, with massive arena support slots for fellow Scots The Fratellis and one of the bands that inspired Sergeant in the first place – Oasis. Not bad for four boys from Glenrothes.

Sergeant’s album will be available on CD and digital download. Full track listing as follows: 1. Sunshine 2. Swiftly Does It 3. Counting Down The Days 4. What If I Never Tried 5. K-Ok 6. Away With The Fairies 7. Shy 8. See You When I See You 9. Sue Loves It 10. The Time Is Now 11. It All Comes Back To Me

The single Sunshine is released 21st September with the album ‘Sergeant’ 12th October on Shy Recordings.
