Scarlette Fever

Scarlette Fever

Scarlette Fever is all set to become the big star of 2011. With two singles already released and her debut album set for release on 6th June, she's already on her way to stardom.

The Hertforshire-born Scarlette is a big movie fan and named her album, Medication Time, after Nurse Ratched's mantra in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

The album is a mix of hot classic pop, ballads and guitar-led growlers, all of which make for a very inspiring album.

Scarlette co-wrote the album with Stuart Crichton and Metrophonic (James Morrison) and it is expected to be a chart topper when it's released next month.

Her first single, Crash and Burn, exploded onto the music scene in January and saw Scarlette gain recognition from an array of newspapers and magazines.

The Sun named her a "raising star" whilst Record of the Day described the single as "A confident debut". She also featured in teen magazines such as Mizz, Sugar and Bliss and the single was B-listed on Radio 2.

Scarlette said the single was inspired by a close friend dying from cancer. She told Bliss that the song was about grasping at all the chances you have, and not being afraid to do what scares you.

The video reflects this perfectly as it shows people holding up signs with their fears written on them, they then throw them into the air and they disappear.

Scarlette's second single differs from her first. Black and white is a lively pop tune with punches of guitar throughout and is expected to do well after the success of Crash and Burn.

Other tracks on the album include the haunting You Don't Know My Name, which excited Scarlette as it features a rare sample from John Barry's Midnight Cowboy soundtrack.

She said, "I wrote it with Grant Black, who's Mr Barry's godson. Mr Barry never gave permission for his stuff to be sampled, but when he said yes it was one of the best days of my life. A true honour."

The album also has a little suprise at the end in the form of a secret track, which compromises of John Barry's Give Me A Smile instrumental, with new lyrics and viola over the top.

The other tracks range from Motown-esque Cheatin' Man, to the urgent What Would You Do, which was written in the wake of a friend's death from breat cancer. Scarlette said, "She was only 27 and she never achieved her ambition of seeing Las Vegas."

Scarlette, real named Karen, often gets asked as to why she chose the name Scarlette Fever. She said, "I'm passionate, so I was thinking of red. Being me, I had to be even more extreme and upgrade it to scarlet. And it's 'fever' as in a fantastic rush of out of control joy and excitement. So here I am."

Oddly, Scarlette wanted to be a marine biologist and undertook biology, chemistry and maths A-levels only to discover her passion for music outweighed her obession with sharks and we're glad it did.

After touring with acts such as Girls Aloud, Simon Webbe and Roachford, and performing at official Pride events across the UK, Scarlette is hoping for a big year in 2011.

She said, "According to the Mayan calendar the world is due to end in 2012 so 2011 needs to be pretty damn incredible."
