A Day To Remember

A Day To Remember

You know when you go into a shop and you see those CD’s that brand themselves as ‘Driving Anthems’ or ‘Songs to do the housework to’, don’t you always wonder where the hell they get some of their ideas from?

So, with this in mind, I thought it was about time I picked fifteen songs to make up my dream mixtape, and see what songs you would have on yours… now, I know we all like different music in different situations…

But you know when you’re driving a long way and you want something to keep you awake and lift your spirits? Well those ‘Driving Anthems’ don’t always go the job, so as I struggled to focus at the wheel on the way into work this morning, I decided today was the day I would make my own record. Sort of.

Finding their way onto my first ever driving CD  and looking set to keep me away as I make the hour and half drive back to Barnsley over the weekend, are the falling selection of some of my favourite songs;

1. A Day To Remember - The Downfall Of Us All

A great song to kick of the CD that never fails to get me cranking up the volume and singing my heart out. Finally getting the recognition they deserve from the British press, A Day To Remember are one of my favourite bands at the moment, and their album Homesick is all I need to get me through a gym session!

2. Alexisonfire - This Could Be Anywhere In The World

Alexisonfire

An old classic that everyone should probably listen to at least once a week… and with a new album out, it’s about time we relived Alexisonfire’s glory days. Taken from their album, Crisis, this single is one that you can not listen to for a few weeks, then when you hear it again, you can’t stop singing it.

3. Nightwish - Nemo

nightwish

My favourite band of all time, I love every Nightwish song, but this is one that particularly stands out when you need a burst of energy… giving you a warm, fuzzy feeling in your tummy that never fails to have me smiling.

4. Biffy Clyro - Glitter and Trauma

Biffy Clyro

One of the original and best Biffy Clyro songs has to be Glitter and Trauma, mainly due to the epic intro that used to welcome people to my MySpace page back in the day…

5. Shinedown - The Sound Of Madness

Shinedown

Shinedown are one of the finest new rock backs to be making a move on the rock scene in the USA, although they’ve been around a while, it’s the title track from their latest album that has such an anthemic feel, there’ so way you won’t be putting the pedal to the metal.

6. All American Rejects - Move Along

All American Rejects

Taking me back to my University days, I remember all too well being drunk and the only one on the dance floor as I requested this track week after week during their 2006 heyday.

7. Buckcherry - Crazy Bitch

Buckcherry

When Buckcherry finally got their act together and made a comeback, it was Crazy Bitch that propelled them back into my CD collection… filled with expositive and sexual innuendos, what more could you want from some dirty US rock stars?

8. The Fray - You Found Me

The Fray

Okay, so this doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the songs, but halfway through you need a little breather to bring your pulse down and to have a little sing along. I think the Fray are one of the finest bands around at the moment, and this song means a lot to me, so it had to be on there.

9. Dead By April - Losing You

Dead By April

Dead By April are going to be MASSIVE this coming year, so I thought they should be on my CD so everyone think’s I’m cool because I know who they are way before anyone else does… well apart from this boy who works in a shoe shop in Manchester and hear me listening to their album last week… hum, can’t win ‘em all.

10. Kelly Clarkson - Since You Been Gone

Kelly Clarkson

As much as I’d like to put the A Day To remember cover of this single on the CD, they’ve already had their turn and I don’t want to start showing favouritism. So it was only fair that Kelly got her shot… I know that doesn’t make me look uber-cool but I don’t care… Kelly is mint.. I wish I was like her.

11. Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA

Bruce Springsteen

How could I make a CD without The Boss making an appearance, let’s face it, he shaped my childhood as I sent hours making up dance routines in my living room to my parent’s CD collection. Bruce was always my favourite, I used to think I was going to marry him one day.

12. Bryan Adams - Summer Of 69

Bryan Adams

How could you have Bruce Springsteen without Bryan Adams then? Both being (in my opinion) the best singers with that sexy, gravelly voice, if Summer Of 69 doesn’t get your gears going and your face smiling, then frankly, you have something wrong with your ears.

13. Linkin Park - Crawling

Linkin Park

Any self-respecting former emo kid must have recorded Linkin Park off the radio onto a cassette at some point in the past, and recently I’ve been giving Hybrid Theory a lot of playtime in my car, so as I can only select one, it has to be the single that made me fall in love with frontman Chester in the first place.

14. Theory Of A Deadman - I Hate My Life

Theory Of A Deadman

Although many people have slammed the Nickelback-alike’s I proper love them, and the lyrics in this song are so awesome that I just want to yell them at the top of my lungs as I zoom down the M6.

15. Ti ft Justin Timberlake - Dead and Gone

rapper-T.I.-Dead-and-Gone

Closing the CD is my guilty pleasure, come on, we all have one, and at the moment this single has to be mine. Now, I never pretend to be a gangsta’ but when this song comes on, where ever I am, I do that fake driving dance (like Fred Durst does in the Rollin’ video.) and what better dance move to pull when you’re actually driving?

FemaleFirst - Ruth Harrison

You know when you go into a shop and you see those CD’s that brand themselves as ‘Driving Anthems’ or ‘Songs to do the housework to’, don’t you always wonder where the hell they get some of their ideas from?
