His debut single ‘Just the Way You Are’ stormed straight into the top of the UK singles chart with an amazing video to match. In the video Bruno serenades a brunette beauty telling her that she is perfect just the way she is and that he wouldn’t change a thing about her. It’s probably fair to say that nearly every girl in the world wanted to be her.
Peter Gene Hernandez was born and raised in Hawaii and was nicknamed Bruno by his father, because he was a chubby baby, after the wrestler Bruno Sammartino.
Before Bruno released his own singles, he had provided lead vocals and co-written the hook for the track ‘Nothing on You’ by B.O.B which went to number one in the UK singles chart, as well as ‘Billionaire’ by Travie McCoy which went to number three.
Bruno was also responsible for co-writing the hits 'Right Round' by Flo Rida, featuring Kesha, as well as 'Wavin' Flag' by K'naan. He also contributed to the writing of the Cee Lo Green smash hit ‘F**k You'.
His debut album 'Doo-Woops & Hooligans’ is coming soon. Having already been released in Australia the album has been certified Gold as well as making it to number three in the U.S Billboard 200.
Despite having only joined the music scene this year Bruno has already been nominated for seven Grammys at the 53rd Grammy Awards on February 13. After performing at the nominations ceremony on December 1 in Los Angeles, he flew off to Pennsylvania to perform to fans.
Amongst the seven nominations there are, Song of The Year for the Cee Lo Green track ‘F** You’, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for ‘Just the Way You Are’ and two nominations in the Record of The Year category for ‘F**k You’ and ‘Nothin’ on You’.
When asked to describe his own music and sound Bruno Mars simply says, ‘it's better if you don't understand; just listen and have a good time’.
After winning over the nation (well, the females at the very least) in 2010, Bruno Mars is certainly one to watch in 2011.
