Vanessa Amorosi

Vanessa Amorosi is back with a new look and a new sound. Following the success of her first single in five years, “Kiss Your Mama”, came the Gold album Somewhere In The Real World, displaying her lyrical maturity and amazing musicianship. The album included Platinum hit single Perfect, which was the most played Australian song on Australian radio in 2008.

Vanessa reached almost unheard of success in 1998 when her debut single Have A Look went Gold after only seven weeks in the ARIA charts. This achievement was followed by mega-hits in Australia and Europe with Absolutely Everybody and Shine, and her album The Power reached #1 in Australia. Vanessa has sold over 1.5 million records worldwide.

Following this success, Vanessa enjoyed career highlights including everything from performing at the Sydney 2000 Olympics & the Manchester Commonwealth Games, to touring Europe with Joe Cocker, and receiving a vast collection of awards both within Australia and Internationally.

As she moved out of her teens, Vanessa’s tastes became a little heavier and more soulful, finding inspiration from 70’s rock legends such as Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. “I never had vocal training but my mother was the best tutor I ever had,” Vanessa says. “She used to sing in a rock band herself. She’d always tell me: ”Put a bit of edge on those words, get across to the audience that those words mean a lot to you.”

In January 2006, Vanessa relaunched her recording career by signing to Universal
Music worldwide with new powerhouse manager, Ralph Carr.  Deciding to record in Los Angeles “to get out of her comfort zone”, Vanessa wrote hundreds of songs with some of the greatest talents in the world, including Australia’s Josh Abrahams and Adrienne & Bob Hannan, as well as America’s Pam Reswick (Tina Arena) and Dave Tyson (Alannah Myles). She recorded with songwriters and producers Ron Aniello (Barenaked Ladies) Greg Wells (Mika, Timbaland) and Cliff Magness (Pink, Avril Lavigne).

The 18 months spent in making the record was “a wonderful time being inspired by some great musicians.” Many of the album’s magical moments came by accident. Whether it was staying up for three days without sleep coming up with new ideas and “putting on new costumes for the songs” (trying out different arrangements), or jamming with friends in clubs around Los Angeles, Vanessa enjoyed every moment of it.

After five years out of the limelight, Vanessa is set to take the world by storm once again with her unmistakeable voice and devastating talent.  “I have been looking forward to this phase of my career since I first started in the industry. I am older, wiser, and have a great team around me. I now know exactly what I want, and I intend to do it for the rest of my life.”
