Lady Gaga
As we approach the end of the year it's about now when you should get your dancing shoes on, dust off the karaoke machine and start reminiscing the last year of hit tunes that have graced the airwaves.
This year we have seen a spawn of new artists, the death of the Prince of pop and a myriad of festival performances. Here are the songs we will be listening to, to get us through the rest of 2009!
Hint to mum and dad there are a few cds that we would all like to see in our stockings this Christmas.
Lady Gaga - Pokerface
The bleach-blonde love child of Madonna and Gwen Stefani with an extra ounce of raunchiness appeared in the omnipresent face of Lady Gaga earlier this year.
Her inescapable song of gambling and sex caused a flurry of Gaga wannabes around the nation, pokerfaces at the ready.
Beyonce - Single Ladies
When Beyonce hit our technicolour screens with her chrome music video the nation was overcome with excitement.
'Single Ladies' burst into the charts as an instant dance hit, and a cheeky gauntlet had been thrown down to those who dare tried to step into Beyonce's dancing shoes.
Florence & The Machine - Rabbit heart (raise it up)
The Titian-haired siren made a big bang this year with her début album 'Lungs' and daring track 'Rabbit Heart (raise it up)' quickly became an indie anthem. Her flawlessly powerful vocals steer this single into a diva track with even more of an edge.
Michael Jackson - Man in The mirror
Okay, so this track is 20 years old, but how else are we supposed to reminisce the preceding year without remembering the music of the sadly deceased and one and only prince of pop? It sure isn't going to be with newly released track 'This is it'.
Lily Allen -22
The latest track from Lily just before she threw the last toy out of the pram and quit the music biz 'forever' (yeah, right). This oxymoronic up beat yet disillusioned song about a demoralised 30 something pays tribute to her always impressive lyrical ability and will get you bopping around the front room in no time.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - Heads will roll
Perhaps not this Brooklyn trios biggest hit but when Karen O and the guys owned the main stage at Leeds Fest' 2009 with an acoustic version of this track, it was clear that it was a song to be recognised. Acoustically it's a gem. Synthesised, it's ground breaking stuff. Definitely the year of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.
Oasis - Falling Down
It's been a turbulent year for the two feuding brothers who decided to call it quits before seeing the year out. Most of us will no doubt see 2009 as Oasis' year for amazing gig performances but their March single 'Falling Down' is worth a listen in tribute to the band that were not meant to be.
Shinedown - Sound of Madness
A sneaky entry here from an uber fan but if you're after a bit of true rock to help you end the year with a blast then Shinedown's title track from their latest album 'Sound of Madness' is the one to listen to.
This track delivers nothing less than beautifully raucous rock with the power house vocals of front man Brent Smith. This will send you flying into 2010, with a bit of metal rock in your heart.
Kasabian - Fire
No doubt the heir's of Oasis's recently vacated indie-rock crown, Kasabian's infectious track 'Fire' cemented their place in Brit rocks big leagues.
With an anthemic and explosive chorus, an interestingly tongue in cheek music video and their biggest hit in some time, it would be a travesty to end the year without a nod and a shake to the brilliant top three hit.
Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers
It wouldn't be right to discard Dizzee from our round up of 2009 in music. The pioneering grime artist who managed to get three number one singles has had a year to be reckoned with.
Huge pop dance track 'Bonkers' smashed the airwaves from Ibiza to Glastonbury, with a little help from Armand Van Helden.
