Hello there little monster, what are you up to?
How much time do you have?! I’m releasing my debut single ‘DJ Do It Again’ and my ‘to do’ list is expanding by the second!! Right now I'm in a beautiful, but very cold, dance studio with my Jayalicous dancers preparing for the coming weeks.
So, tell me about what you’re here to promote?
I'm here to introduce myself to your readers, so HI!!! My names Jaya, I recently got signed to Universal Records/AATW and have just completed a tour with Peter Andre and NDubz. I’m currently working on my album and preparing to release my debut single ‘DJ Do It Again’ which is out on Feb 22nd
And if we didn’t have any clue as to who you were, what should we be looking up on Google?
Funnily enough, I Googled myself today! I released the video for my single not too long ago and wanted to see if anyone had seen or written anything about it... And they have!! I love that I actually come up on Google but there is a quicker way to connect with me.
And as Jacko had the Moonwalk and Elvis had the snake hips, what do you have that makes you unique?
I'm the first British Indian female to be singed to a major label. I'm doing what I love and breaking down barriers at the same time. I’m still working on my signature move!! Maybe I’ll try doing the Moonwalk forwards!
Now, clearly we need to get to know each other more, so tell me an interesting fact about you that no-one else knows?
Considering the number of times I've been asked that question recently, I'm not sure there is anything somebody doesn’t already know. But, I will let you in on a little secret... Although I sing and I that’s what I absolutely love doing, when I'm by myself I shut the doors put on my ipod and rap along with Jay-z, Kanye West and most recently Chipmunk. I look and sound like a crazy person but I really enjoy it. I think that will definitely be my next career move… Mc Jaya…has a ring to it right?
What song do you wish you’d written?
ANY Michael Jackson song! Michael lived every word and emotion in every single song he made. He wanted people to feel and be inspired by his music, to make this world a better place and he wanted to do it through music. His music is timeless and one of a kind, I would give my right arm to have been a part of that. But considering how much I use my hands, I’ll just hope that I can affect people the way he did. Love you MJ!
If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and watching TV, how would you convince me to come out?
My shows are about having fun and connecting with the audience. I try and make every performance special and that often means I do something unexpected. Imagine me doing a stage jump with a corded mic and 5 inch heels…. If that isn’t motivating enough for you to come watch me I would a bribe you or force you! It all depends on the reason you’re not coming out.
And if you were to take me on a trip to your hometown, what would be the first place we’d go?
Wembley Stadium. I recently had a photoshoot there and was able to use the Royal suite which is where the Queen goes when watching a match or ‘Take That’ concert. It has the best view of the pitch and I would be able to show you all of Wembley's landmarks from one room.
What’s the best prank you’ve ever pulled on someone?
As boring as this may seem, I'm always on the receiving end. I don’t have the right sense of humour to be mean to someone just for the fun of it. I believe in karma too much!
And what’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done? Please tell us how it ended up!
At my sisters hen do I was dared to go down to the reception area of our very conservative hotel and ask for a bath robe. I honestly thought it was the easiest dare ever until they added that I would have to do in a pair of hotpants, skimpy top and no shoes. My room was on the top floor and the reception was 12 floors down. By the time I got out of the lift, to the reception and back to my room I managed to scare 7 old couples, a cleaner and have security pull me aside
If you had to date a member of the same sex (or opposite sex if the case may be) who would it be? Mine would ALWAYS be Angelina Jolie.
Don’t worry, I think shes every womans secret crush! Barring Ms Jolie, I would probably say Cheryl Cole. She absolutely stunning but still has this ‘girl next door’ feel about her. I think we’d have a lot in common.
Have you ever been naked in public? Elaborate.
I’ve had a few clothes malfunctions but have never been totally naked in public.
Have you ever been arrested? Again, elaborate.
Never! I’m too much of a good girl. (However when I was in high school me and my friends got caught bunking a lesson. I was reported by a student (member of the public), taken in by a teacher (police), confessed to the deputy head (jury) and punished by the head teacher (judge). That whole experience made me feel like I'd committed an actual crime. so I guess in a way I have been arrested, by the high school patrol office!
Speaking of prison - if you were to send someone to prison for crimes against music, who would it be?
Oh wow, that’s a good question. To be completely honest, I like all music and respect anyone who tries to put anything out here, no matter how horrid the song is! As an artist , I appreciate and understand how hard it is to showcase yourself knowing that some people may not react positively. I think more people in this industry should have that understanding and support one another. Its one thing dealing with negativity from the public but as musicians we have a community of our own and should stick together.
What were you doing last night at 11?
Working out, I do sit ups every night before I go to bed. It helps me sleep and get into my jeans the next day.
