Ivyrise popped into the office this afternoon, and in between eating all our Animals biscuits, Disco’s and drinking us out of tea, front man and general music genius-cum-fashion icon Ben Falinski took the time out to take us through their debut album, track by track.
Disguise
This track was written quite a while ago and was released in 2008. It got to Number Two and got on Radio 2 for two months!
It’s a song about how we often hide our true feelings in life in favour of living life ‘the easy way’. However, we all know we should speak out in times like that, and that’s exactly what happens in the song.
Paris
This is a love song that I wrote in Paris whilst I was busking at Austerlitz station, it’s a story about losing and finding love in a big city when you feel very lost and lonely.
1,000 Feet
If you’ve ever had the feeling that no matter what happens, life is going to be okay and everything is going to work out right then that is what this song is all about. When you feel like everything seems happy and fun, that’s being at 1,000 feet.
Electrified
This one is about a train ticket and love! It’s about what we do to make love work and the lengths we go to, even crossing train lines regardless of the danger. Electrified conveys pain, love and joy in just one song.
Looks Like Heaven
This song is about the most beautiful women in the world! We all have one, and this is about mine. I love this track!
Stuck Beneath The Ice
This is the oldest Ivyrise song and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Okay, so you won’t be freezing under a thick sheet of ice, because that wouldn’t be great news!
It’s a big, anthemia Ivyrise rock song and seems to be our sing-along-song that get’s all the fans going. We’re going to be performing it later on today so keep an eye out for the video of that…
Last Of The Broken Hearts
This is another gig, heart on the sleeve track from our good selves; singing about how important it is to never give up on something or somebody you really believe in.
Last Words
For two minutes, there is only me on the piano singing before for whole band kick in for an anthemic ending. It’s almost like a triumphant ending to a quest for peace and tranquillity in your life and it’s so much fun to play live!
Outside
I wrote this song about someone very close to me who became unwell and closed off from the world. I was upset and angry about what had happened and wrote this song about the way I was feeling. It’s one of the songs which really mean a lot to me.
With You Til The End
Stick by your family I was always told, and this track is about how hard it is sometimes to keep fighting, even when you think you are losing. It’s about having the right priorities in life.
Worldwide
This song is about taking over the world and seeing all there is to see, whether it’s good or bad. It is about all of our dreams coming true one day.
Thanks for reading guys,
