We Know Mason
âWe Know Masonâ, a new indie band from Barry, South Wales (home of Gavin & Stacey), are taking on the giants of the music industry. Their debut single, âThe Countryâ, is released on February 9 and they have just released their first album, âYou Doâ produced by Llion Robertson.Â
This supercharged band is turning the music industry on its head. They aren't conforming to the tired formula of playing hundreds of gigs to a handful of people, before recording a single in their Dadâs garage, but are releasing an experimental album before anyone has even heard of them. Â
What is astounding is they have only just set up their MySpace profile and havenât held a single gig. Self-released on Danger Records, We Know Mason have pooled all of their coin jars to fund a global promotional campaign.
Critics are amazed at the bravery of a band producing a quality studio album without a single fan. This back to front approach is what makes We Know Mason standout. âYou Doâ was recorded at Musicbox, Cardiff, where Welsh giants: Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia and Funeral For a Friend have all produced material. Â
We Know Mason deliver quick, edgy and guitar-drenched rock and roll with songs of love, heartache and despai, but with an optimism to get through these crazy times. Their sound is a mix of The Stereophonics and Teenage Fanclub weaved in with Oasis undertones. Â
The band are already working on their second album and have enough material for a third. They are hoping that once people hear them, then their fanbase will spread by word of mouth. Meanwhile, they are planning a UK tour this spring, visiting South Wales, Bristol, Bath, Manchester & London.
For them it is all about the music, We Know Masonâs lead guitarist, G explains: âEveryone kept telling us that it can't be done, we couldnât do it on our own, you need time, and you need to be patient, so we just thought letâs do it. It's 2009, how hard does this have to be? Make a great record, get it out there and see what happens. "
The result is an album that will astound and delight alike. It is filled with edgy rock tracks and thought-provoking ballards..
