The single, a wry look at culture’s obsession with, and hunger for, celebrity is typical of The Yeah You’s sound, featuring a joyous, anthemic chorus that lodges in your brain after only one listen.
The duo, Mike Kintish & Nick Ingram, who have been widely tipped for success in 2009, are currently putting the finishing touches to their debut album, which will be released this summer. The album was written in Mike’s bedroom and recorded in LA with Greg Wells (Mika, Katy Perry & Rufus Wainwright)
A series of special live dates will also be announced shortly, including a series of off- the- wall The Yeah You’s nights of entertainment at Callooh Callay in Shoreditch. These nights will see the duo present an evening which will combine their love of a wide variety of performing arts into a multi-faceted night that is indescribably The Yeah You’s.
The duo met through a shared love of theatre and music; keyboard player Mike, a burgeoning novelist and playwright met singer Nick when Nick turned up to read for one of Mike’s plays. Discovering a shared love of classic pop groups such as Madness & Queen, the two immediately started writing together, their first single “15 Minutes” being one of the first things they ever wrote.
Commenting on the single, Mike says: “Warhol’s adage that in the future everyone would be famous for 15 Minutes really came true with the advent of reality tv. 15 Minutes is our retort to Andy in the hope that our career lasts as long as his did!”
