Cocos Lovers are a family band in the truest sense of the word – they are made up of husbands, wives, brothers, sisters and friends of all ages from Deal on the Kent coast and look set to catapult themselves to the forefront of the new folk scene with the release of their debut album ‘Johannes’ on March 6th.
The band came together at the start of 2008 and began playing many gigs throughout the South, together with a number of festivals, winning many friends along the way.
After a busy summer of 2008, they set sail for Europe to spend three months playing gigs, writing new material, finding new sounds and making new friends. The route took them to Belgium, Holland, Germany, the South of France and Spain where we settled in the 'Magic Valley' between Valencia and Barcelona.
In the 2 years since the band formed they have released 2 critically acclaimed EP’s, supported Mumford & Sons, Alessis Ark, 6 Day Riot and Joss Stone all at personal request of the artist themselves, completed their own UK and European tours and been championed by the likes of the BBC as one of the countries most promising new bands.
They have also performed at some of the UK’s biggest festivals including Secret Garden Party, Lounge On The Farm, Green Man Festival & Guildford Festival and had a certain young folk starlet, Laura Marling, approaching the band and buying their records.
2010 will see the band further pushing themselves forward with festival appearances planned and a live tour in full support of the traditional folk, off-kilter rhythms and glorious, widescreen melodies of ‘Johannes’. With a fan-base in place already and the ever increasing interest in the new folk scene, the year ahead looks very exciting for Coco’s Lovers.
