Razorlight

Razorlight

2008 has been an amazing year in indie music, but with the good has to come the bad and there has been plenty of that.

With our proverbial finger always on the pulse, we have our countdown of the top three flops 2008.

A surprising addition to this list after their affluent success, is Razorlight. They released their latest album, 'Slipway Fires' in November 2008 and since have received some rather negative reviews.

At NME.com, Hamish MacBain reviewed the album as 'utter, utter cobblers' and described Razorlight as 'just a boringly competent Indie band masquerading as, at best, Fleetwood Mac and, at worse, Whitesnake'.

That's some tough words and it wasn't only NME who felt this way about their latest release. It's been a tough year for Borrell and his band mates, but on a happier note their time away has made room for some other big Indie successes.

Another shocking addition to this countdown is Indie rock/pop band Athlete. Their last album 'Beyond the Neighbourhood' was released over a year ago and hasn't made as much as a ripple in the musical pond that is Indie music.

Athlete should take at trip into space

The last chart entry was at 198, and since then they have quite literally dropped off the radar. Rumours are that they are in the studio working on something new, but we think its going to have to be something pretty major to get them back on the scene.

Finally to fall short this year is Leeds Indie band, The Pigeon Detectives. Their second album, 'Emergency' arrived less than a year after their debut to a mixed reaction. They have been called generic and obnoxious and have all but disappeared from any musical venue.

The Pigeon Detectives didn't fly high this year

It seems to be that 2008 was a bad year for some of the bigger names in Indie, gladly making way for some of the hottest new talent around.
