I’ve got to admit that my favourite Guns N Roses song is Sweet Child O’ Mine, and the toss up between that and November Rain seems to be pretty divided amongst GNR fans.
Although I’d love to champion Sweet Child… I’m afraid the masses won with their love for the June 1992 hit - the fact that the music video because the most requested video on MTV kind of gives it the upper hand I guess.
Written by good old Axl Rose, the song appears on the album Use Your Illusion I and at 8 minutes and 57 seconds, it is one of the bands longest songs… and manages to find a place in the rock ballad hall of fame alongside the likes of "Stairway to Heaven", "Dream On" and "Bohemian Rhapsody".
As we love Slash more than any other guitarist in the world, we’re pretty happy to learn that November Rain lands him at number 6 in The 100 Greatest Guitar Solos list by Guitar World.
But best of all, November Rain was voted number one on the Rock 1,000 2006 - an annual countdown of the top 1,000 rock songs by New Zealand radio listeners. Horray!
