Jody Watley to many is a true living legend. She’s an innovative music maker, and style-forging pioneer: since the mid-90s, the Grammy Award-winning multi-talented Jody Watley has led the way as an entrepreneur working in the independent music world and one of the few already established best-selling female artists to produce, create and own her recordings.
With an amazing 32 Top Ten Singles and 13 #1 Singles in the Pop, R&B and Dance/Electronic genres over the past three decades - including such classics as 'Looking For a New Love' and ‘Friends’ (the ground breaking collaboration with Eric B and Rakim), a Lifetime Achievement Award from Billboard (2007) and countless accolades, Jody has consistently broken new ground in music, video ( Watley remains one of MTV's most nominated female artists) and fashion (featured in Italian VOGUE’s Historic "Black Issue” in 2008).
She was named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People and released the best selling 'Dance To Fitness' video. Before embarking on her successful solo career, Watley was an original member of the R&B trio Shalamar from 1977-1984. Watley was also a part of Sir Bob Geldof’s history making charity single Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas" alongside Bono, Sting, George Michael and Duran Duran.
In recent years she has continued to broaden her musical evolution and growth as an artist working successfully in the jazz influenced ambience of electronic soul. Watley resides in the Los Angeles area where she oversees her various businesses and projects, including her own imprint Avitone Recordings. She is currently working on her tenth studio album, “Chameleon”.
