Jessie J took to the stage last night for Girl Effect Live, a celebration of power of females in overcoming poverty on a global scale.
Launched back in 2008, Girl Effect is based on the economic theory showing how adolescent girls living in poverty can be the ones who play a crucial role in solving some of the biggest problems the world faces today.
250 million adolescent girls live in poverty, and by investing in their health, education and economic future we stand a better chance of removing obstacles to success including child marriage, HIV/aids, teen pregnancy and the cycle of poverty.
Jessie J said: “Living in the UK, we’re fortunate that we have the opportunity to strive for and fulfil our full potential, but this isn’t the case for many girls living in poverty. I got involved in Girl Effect Live, because I want to take a stand with other girls in the UK to inspire, recognise and celebrate the amazing potential of girls everywhere.”
Others who performed at the event include Ava Vidal, Sasha Keable and George The Poet.
