
Main Stage at Rhythm & Vines
Be the first in the world to see the sunrise in 2009 at the Rhythm & Vines festival in New Zealand. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Waiohika Estate vineyards, Rhythm & Vines is the ultimate New Year celebration.
Taking place from 29th December to 1st January, the best local talent will play alongside a host of top international artists, with over 120 performances across 4 stages. Confirmed artists include; Franz Ferdinand, Shihad, The Kooks, Carl Cox, Digitalism, Santogold, The Mystery Jets, Jamie Liddell, Adam Freeland, A Track and Busy P.
Now in its 6th year, Rhythm & Vines focuses on bringing fun loving people together in one of New Zealand's most scenic and sunny locations â Waiohika Estate! The lineup for this yearâs event is also itâs most ambitious to date and set to be huge "We hope music lovers will be excited about the direction that Rhythm & Vines is heading in.
The line-up reflects a new and diverse change in the direction of New Zealandmusic. We're very proud to be promoting so much Kiwi talent this year alongside a massive international line-up, never seen before in New Zealand." Enthuses Program Director and founder Hamish Pinkham.
Amongst the highlights - The Kooks, playing their first and only New Zealand show, will open Rhythm & Vines on the 29th December alongside Scotlandâs finest Franz Ferdinand. On the big night of 31st December Digitalism will play an exclusive live show and New Zealandâs favourite band Shihad will lead into the all important countdown, followed by the mighty Carl Cox who will journey party goers through the worlds very first sunrise set of 2009!
And the fun doesnât stop at Waiohika Estate! Rhythm & Vines will be bringing you a full week of beach side action at the âBW Campgroundsâ. Located just 10 mins from the main festival site the camp will include surf competitions, volley ball tournaments, competitions, celebrities and the massively popular "BW Bikini Jam" with a show stopping line up of pre parties and after parties.
This year will also feature an additional camping area called âBand Campâ due to increased demand and 10,000 passes being sold already. Band Camp will be the perfect place to chill out away from the hustle and bustle of the main camping areas and is only 700m away from the beach. So, if you want to make the most of your stay in Gisborne, dust off the bikini and take full advantage of this killer week from the 27th December until the 2nd January!
Launched in 2003, Rhythm & Vines was the idea of University friends Hamish Pinkham and Tom Gibson, who had the idea to organise an event for their friends to join at one central scenic location â Gisborne.
The next step was teaming up with local Gisborne lad Andrew Witters who agreed to use the amazing purpose-built concert amphitheatre at Waiohika Estate for their inaugural event. Since then Rhythm & Vines has grown into a spectacular 3 day event attracting over 16,000 people and this year it set to be the biggest and best yet.
If you canât wait till December and want to check out some of the hottest New Zealand artists, get down to Koko on Saturday 30th August. The event is called 'Endeavour' will feature kiwi rock band âThe Checksâ and current media darling âLadyhawkeâ. Other acts include Nathan Haines and Rodney Fisher with more special guests still to be announced.
