The MOBO Awards in association with Lebara Mobile will be returning to Glasgow’s SECC on October 5th and it is due to be a night for the ladies.
Already confirmed to set the stage alight is chart-topper Jessie J who hit the number one spot with ‘Price Tag’ taken from her debut album ‘Who You Are’ earlier this year.
She will be joined by UK Dub Step star Katy B and American R’n’B princess Alexis Jordan who stormed the charts with her debut ‘Happiness’ last year.
The chart-topping trio are the first of this year’s performers to be revealed with further acts to be announced in the run up to the awards in October.
Jessie J commented: "I cannot wait to rock the stage - I have always wanted to perform at the MOBO Awards and it’s an honour to be asked. Good times!"
Launched in 1996, by founder and CEO Kanya King, the MOBO Awards were the first in Europe to celebrate urban music.
In its 16 year history, the MOBO Awards has undoubtedly played an instrumental role in elevating black music and culture to mainstream popular status in the UK and is proud to have played a significant part in launching the UK’s biggest and brightest urban acts over the years.
This has included the multi-award winning Ms Dynamite, chart topper Craig David, international artist Estelle, N-Dubz and Chipmunk.
The tickets for this year’s MOBO Awards are now available from mobo.com, priced from £29-£100 with exclusive fan packages available from £225.
Broadcast live on BBC Three, with highlights on BBC One and further coverage on BBC Radio 1 and BBC 1Xtra, the MOBO Awards consistently attract the largest prime time multicultural audience with access to millions of music fans in a growing number of countries worldwide.
This audience has been able to enjoy some of the biggest names in music take to the MOBO stage, with appearances from industry power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the Queen of Rock and Roll Tina Turner, longstanding icon Sade, US superstar Usher, chart dominator Rihanna and R’n’B power house Black Eyed Peas to name but a few.
Last year, MOBO saw newcomer Tinie Tempah and boy band JLS walk away with two gongs each and the night was ended in true MOBO style with an-all male star ‘Game Over’ finale.
This year will not be short of surprises - we may see Jessie J, Katy B and Alexis Jordan and other ladies teaming up for some unique collaborations that MOBO has been proud to deliver over the years.
Kanya King MBE, CEO and founder of the MOBO Awards comments: “We have a wealth of fabulous artists performing this year and some great surprises up our sleeves, so the run up to October 5th is going to be very exciting for MOBO. We had such a fantastic experience when we hosted the MOBO Awards in Glasgow in 2009 that it felt only natural for us to return.”
In working closely with EventScotland and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau whose efforts are further supported by Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Government, MOBO recently committed to further visits to Glasgow in 2013 and 2015 when its 20th birthday will be celebrated.
MOBO intend to bring more than just the awards ceremony to Glasgow, it is also working with a number of partners on other activities within the city to leave their legacy, with a view to build on this further when MOBO return to Scotland in 2013 and 2015.
