Guilfest 2010

Guilfest 2010

Folk Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman is confirmed to perform on The Main Stage at GuilFest on Sunday 18th July.  Widely regarded as the UK's foremost folk artist, Seth came to wider public attention following his Mercury nominated “Kitty Jay” album in 2005.

With this album, Seth brought folk music to a new, younger audience and has been widely credited with breaking down perceptions and barriers often associated with folk music and its acceptance in the mainstream.  Winner of both “Singer of the year” and “Best Album” at the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards,  Seth has performed his special brand of folk all over the world and with a brand new album eagerly anticipated for release in June, organisers are delighted to welcome him back to Stoke Park this July.

Drum and Bass sensation Sub Focus will be touching down in The Funky End Dance Tent on Friday 16th July.  With three UK Dance Chart number 1s under his belt, a top 40 UK single, remix work with huge artists such as The Prodigy & Deadmau5, and numerous plays on Radio 1, Sub Focus is one of a rare breed to Drum and Bass artists to have truly broken into the mainstream.

Festival favourites Dreadzone will be bringing their eclectic fusion of Dub, Trance, Reggae, Techno, Folk and Rock to The Good Time Guide Stage at GuilFest 2010 on Friday 16th July.  Dreadzone are best known for their acclaimed 1995 album “Second Light” - cited by the late John Peel as one of his top ten albums of all time and featuring hit singles such as “Little Britain” and “Life, Love and Unity”.  April 2010 sees the release of “Eye on the Horizon”, Dreadzone's 6th Studio album, so expect a heady mix of old and new material for their live show at GuilFest.

Eight piece Dub/Reggae outfit Pama International will be appearing at GuilFest for the first time, on The Main Stage on Sunday 18th July.  Described as Dub Fuelled Ska Rocksteady & Reggae for the people, In 2006 the band became the first new signing in 30 years to the world famous reggae record label Trojan Records. 2008 saw the release of the 'Love Filled Dub Band' album, which received a host of 4-star reviews from magazines including MOJO, Record Collector, Echoes and Touch. BBC 6Music DJ Craig Charles described the album as, “Bringing funk, soul and dub to near perfection”. Having supported ska legends The Specials and playing legendary festival performances all over the country, the bands debut at GuilFest will definitely be one not miss.

GuilFest 2010 is not just about the music – All over the site you will find attractions to entertain and amuse throughout the weekend.  Brand new for 2010 are The Ceroc Dance Tent – where you can learn the fusion of modern jive and salsa that is currently sweeping the nation, and The Carnivalanza Salon & Chillout area – where you can alter your image and have a full makeover by one of the fully trained professionals, or simply chillout and appreciate the ambience from a comfy sofa or beanbag.  Also this year GuilFest welcomes Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Cafe to the festival – Which will be providing a Canteen where you can purchase their unique take on festival favourites, and attend special survival workshops - where “Three Hungry Boys” from the Channel 4 show will be showing off skills they have learnt about “living off the land” from Hugh.

As well as all this, at this award winning festival you can look forward to regular GuilFest areas such as eFestivals Cosmic Comedy Zone, the wonderful Man In The Moon Theatre Tent, The 70s Disco, Farmer Giles Barn Dance, Unison Zone, Massive 150ft Beer Tent, Art & Craft Village, Calypso Cocktail Bar, Street Performers, Food Stalls from Around The World, Our amazing Kidzone and much, much more!
