Let the countdown begin...Elbow are set to raise the roof off Brixton Academy tonight, as they open this years Shockwaves NME Awards 2009 with an exclusive rendition of ‘Grounds for Divorce'.

The Mercury and BRITs Award winning band will take to the stage to perform their hit single in spectacular style; with a ten-piece string, six-piece brass section and a lighting set that's sure to make your eyes water, making it an awards opening to remember!!

The Bury born quartet have grown from strength to strength since they began in 1990 with current album, ‘The Seldom Seen Kid' their strongest yet, earning them multiple awards and platinum sales certification in the UK. The critically acclaimed band are sure to live up to the hype when they kick off the Awards.

Guy Garvey from Elbow said: "Play first and you don't have to wait to start drinking. It will be a blast!"

Elbow will complete the already stomping line-up of the UK's most iconic and contemporary acts who will performing on the night at this years Shockwaves NME Awards. Expect electrifying performances from Glasvegas, Franz Ferdinand, Friendly Fires and of course this years God Like Genius's the post-punk legends The Cure.
