Bruce Springsteen might have wowed fans at the U.K.'s Glastonbury festival on Saturday night - but landed the event's organisers a $4,500 (£3,000) fine for running 40 minutes over the strict curfew.

The Boss played a thrilling 25-song headline set spanning his entire back catalogue, with classics including Born to Run and Dancing in the Dark.

He was on stage for a stunning two and a half hours - but ran 40 minutes past the event's midnight cut-off time due to starting late, leading to an inevitable financial penalty from local officials.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis says, "I gave him 10 minutes and he took nine. I'll pay the fine - £3,000. Paul McCartney - 2004 headliner - paid me back. I'm going to pay the Bruce Springsteen one myself. It's not a lot because it was fantastic. The last nine minutes were spectacular."

A festival spokesman adds, "There are limits because a lot of people live nearby and it is right that things draw to a close at a reasonable hour. Each year we get only a handful of complaints about noise."

The performance was Springsteen's first ever at the legendary British festival - and revellers immediately declared it the highlight of the weekend. British TV presenter Mark Radcliffe told BBC viewers, "I didn't think he was going to stop."
