Milke

Milke

Milke are fast gaining a reputation for classic British pop. Recent single, ‘Love Get Out Of My Way’, was heralded by The Fly, The Guardian, Artrocker, straight onto rotation on BBC 6 Music, Radio 1, Popjustice, XFM, Attitude, Gay Times, Mixmag, DJ, and many more. Yet again, the blogs pulled them deep into their collective bosoms, with the band hitting No.3 on Hype machine, via buzz reviews from bloggers across the UK, Europe, and the US.

Back in the physical world, Milke recently won Gigwise’s Camden Crawl new band competition, they were chosen by a select panel of industry and media bigwigs after beating hundreds of publicly voted bands to make the final. Elsewhere on the live front, the band have packed out shows at Club NME, Proud Galleries, YoYo, Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, and beyond, including several gigs in Paris (the French being such arbiters of good taste).

‘Maybe I’m Crazy’, a song about wanting to stay faithful in the face of fashionable infidelity, is further evidence that radio-friendly synth pop doesn’t have to come with a female singer, a gravity-defying haircut or a headdress. Simply put, this is as catchy as anything you’ll hear this summer, but with an edge to the production and level of song-writing that will long outlast the zeitgeist.

Second track is live favourite, ‘Resignation’, about love and love lost. Remixes on the package come from current top flight blog stars such as label mates and Kitsune faves Joe and Will Ask, Dirty Disco Youth, Fireman, and Stay Ali.

With a KLF approach to creativity (minus the sheep slaying), Milke are inspired by the Kitsune sound, Stuart Price and The DFA, mixed with the pop sensibilities of Eurythmics, The Cure, Talking Heads, Stevie Wonder and Prince.

When performing live, Milke expand to a four piece (Ra on vocals and guitar, Andrew on keyboards and backing vocals, Luke on drums, and Dave on bass). They’ve supported The Faint, Fugiya and Miyagi, and played alongside Dan Black and Hadouken.
