Alex Metric has been blazing a trail over the last couple of years. His glitchy productions, innovatively combining his love of 80s synth-pop, filter disco, big beat and indie, have been devastating dancefloors worldwide.
His collaborator, Steve Angello, is already a highly regarded DJ and Producer worldwide with his underground productions. Steve has gone on to scale further heights as part of the Swedish House Mafia, with two Top 10 singles and sell out Arena shows.
The success of Alex’s early EPs prompted a flurry of remix requests from acts such as Gorillaz, Bloc Party, Phoenix, Ladyhawke, and La Roux. He has also been building a reputation as one of the most exciting young deejays working today. His genre-hopping sound - which the man himself describes as 'less of a steady build... more of a really really unsafe rollercoaster' - has graced the soundsystems of most every major club in the world, as well as the stages of festivals including Glastonbury, V, and Serbia's Exit.
With highly lauded productions, stellar remixes, explosive DJ, recent live sets and to top it off, a radio show on BBC Radio 1, it’s a wonder Alex sleeps at all. Now he is gearing up for the next chapter.
“Firstly I’m really excited to be embarking on a new project with Positiva/Virgin. A project called "Open Your Eyes". Not an album in the traditional sense, but a fresh take on the idea. It will be a collection of my favourite remixes, some brand new exclusive ones, some new original material and some productions i have done for other acts.
"As an artist I have so many different outlets for my music, this seems like the best way of collecting it all in one place and getting what I’m about across to people in one go. There will be singles from the album, the first one being "Open Your Eyes" a collaboration between myself and Steve Angello, with a yet to be announced indie legend on vocal duties. Tying in with all of this I will be putting together a new live show concept for the project ready to rock festivals and clubs next summer. So here’s to 2011 being one of the best yet, things are stepping up a gear!
“So with that in mind I also have to announce I’m going to be leaving Radio 1 INDJWT. Firstly I’d like to say how much I’ve enjoyed my time at the station. It was an unexpected twist in my musical journey, but one I have loved every second of. Having the chance to play terrible 80's records on a Thursday evening on one of the biggest radio stations in the world is something I have enjoyed greatly. And quite frankly I’m surprised I got away with it.
"But, my first love and the reason I’m here today is making music. First and foremost I’m a producer and I need to give that all my energy and attention. I'd like to thank everyone that’s helped me along the way at the station, Tom Koenig, Chloe Straw, Roman Tagoe, my fellow INDJWT presenters and especially Rhys Hughes for getting me in there in the first place.”
Alex Metric’s first release for Positiva/Virgin will be a collaboration with Steve Angello (Swedish House Mafia), entitled ‘Open Your Eyes’. The track will be initially released on Beatport as an instrumental in January 2011, it will later feature an indie legend for a full release in March 2011.
