The Beach Boys

Veteran singers THE BEACH BOYS Have helped raise money for survivors of the Japanase disaster by recording a brand new single.

The single 'Don't Fight The Sea' is the first single to be made by the Beach Boys since 1996, and was released today as part of their efforts to help Japanese survivors living in difficult situations.

Founding member Al Jardine approached the rest of the band - Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston - to record the track Don't Fight the Sea, which was unreleased by the band in 1978.

He tells Undercover.fm, "We felt that the song had a nice basic message of friendship. I also like the idea of that song, because the vocals are a bit under-appreciated. So this release was a perfect place to showcase the idea of harmony and friendship. Everybody is behind it 100 per cent, that's the nice part."

The band have been together since 1961 and still tour across America performing their classic songs to fans. Some of the original members still remain however frontman Brian Wilson left the band after a history of psychological illness.

The first thousand copies of the single bought today will be pressed on white vinyl with a red label - to symbolise the Japanese flag. And 90 of them will be signed by the bandmembers.

All proceeds from the charity single will benefit the Red Cross' Japanese relief efforts following the nation's devastating earthquake and tsunami last month.
