Justin Timberlake is back everybody! After weeks of rumours and speculation, JT is finally releasing new music again, and with Jay-Z guest starring on his first original song in over five years, he’s not leaving the big guns in the arsenal.
The question is though, is his return joyous, or does it make us want to run back to our caves and forget it ever happened?
For the first thirty seconds, Suit and Tie had us rather worried. With an opening more like an A$AP Rocky song than anything like we found on the duo of Justin Timberlake we’ve had so far, it’s not a whole lot like anything else we’re used to hearing from Timberlake.
Suit and Tie is definitely a grower though, as after a couple of listens, the tempo starts to hit a good rhythm and Justin’s vocal starts to cut through the slightly cluttered background. Even if it might not become a Timberlake favourite like SexyBack, Cry Me A River or LoveStoned, it’s a solid opening to his second career in music.
While we’re not ready to crown him the pop prince once again, it’s good to hear that Justin’s willing to take risks on his comeback and not just make a safe, if forgettable, ballad. We can’t wait to hear more of what he’s been getting up to in the studio.
