Jason Derülo is poised to score a third successive hit with the May 30th release of the single ‘Ridin’ Solo’ on Beluga Heights / Warner Bros. Records. Its upbeat, celebratory style bounds with energy, shimmering beats and Derülo’s exuberant vocals. Like ‘Whatcha Say’ and ‘In My Head’ before it, ‘Ridin’ Solo’ is the result of his creative partnership with super-producer / Beluga Heights founder J.R. Rotem.
Jason’s smash hit single ‘Whatcha Say’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart making him one of the world’s biggest new artists. He repeated his success in the UK when ‘Whatcha Say’, one of the biggest airplay hits of 2009, entered the charts at #3.
His second single ‘In My Head’ went straight to the top of the charts with first week sales of 70,000 – it triumphed over other new entries from Ellie Goulding and Sugababes. His self-titled debut album also proved to be a hit when it hit the charts at #8 as the second highest new entry of the week.
He also recently made history when he became the first solo male artist to score two consecutive number one hits on Billboard’s Pop Songs airplay chart.
Jason Derülo’s debut album provides the thrilling sense of the arrival of a major new star. Aside from the singles, ‘What If’ employs a delicate piano line, infectious backing vocals and dramatic dynamics to create a love song that’s both sophisticated and immediately accessible. While the majority of the album pulsates with the sound of the new, ‘The Sky’s The Limit’ offers a retro-futuristic take on classic Eighties pop.
Raised in a two-parent home in Florida, Derülo took to performing in school plays, and composed his first song on piano at the age of eight. He kept writing, and at seventeen, Jason wrote and sang the chorus to ‘Bossy’, a song on southern rapper Baby's album ‘Five*Stunna’. This opened the floodgates, as he became a sought-after songwriter for the likes of P. Diddy, Lil Wayne, Sean Kingston, Cassie, Donnie Klang, Birdman, Iyaz and Danity Kane.
