Tracks from Arcade Fire's new album The Suburbs hold nine out of ten spots on the singles chart at Last.fm, despite the band choosing not to offer their new album up on music streaming services.
The Last.fm chart measures everything that users listen to through the website as well as from hundreds of other music sites and services, including iTunes, Spotify, and The Hype Machine, using a system called scrobbling. With the album unavailable for streaming, the chart domination comes directly from music that fans have bought and are then streaming online.
Arcade Fire released third full-length album The Suburbs on August 2 in most of Europe and a day later in North America. Now that the album is for sale internationally, it accounts for nine of the ten most popular tracks of the week among Last.fm users, with "The Suburbs," "Ready to Start," and "Modern Man" taking the lead.
