It was back in 2011 when we said goodbye to television series Entourage after eight seasons. Earlier this year, Vincent, Ari, Eric, Turtle, and Johnny were back as Entourage came to the big screen for the first time.
Have to admit, was never a fan of the television series and the movie was not one that I was looking forward to or expecting much from... it seems I was right to have such low expectations.
Despite the original cast of Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven returning to the central roles and TV series creator Doug Ellin taking up the director's chair, Entourage has made it in at number six on our Worst Films of 2015 list. It has also gone on to become one of the biggest film flops of the year.
Movie star Vincent Chase (Grenier), together with his boys, Eric (Connolly), Turtle (Ferrara) and Johnny (Dillon), are back... and back in business with super agent-turned-studio head Ari Gold (Piven). Some of their ambitions have changed, but the bond between them remains strong as they navigate the capricious and often cutthroat world of Hollywood.
You do have to ask the question, why was this movie made? This is a shallow, cameo-driven film that has no point or purpose whatsoever - this is a hundred and four minutes of my life that I will NEVER get back.
I am sure fans of the television series will be delighted to see Grenier and co return to these roles, but for anyone else, this movie really is an awful waste of time.
There's nothing here in terms of story and all of the character really are pretty horrible - how this show went on for eight seasons is a bit of a mystery to me because there is nothing to like here at all.
There's so little plot here that it is insulting that you had to pay for the ticket to see the film. The characters that we know from the TV series don't develop any further. The cast stumbles from one scene to another with no real purpose and drive.
A bevy of well-known faces pop up to make totally useless cameos that add absolutely nothing to the story and are a complete waste of time. It really is hard to see where the $27.5 million budget was spent - it clearly wasn't on a screenwriter.
Sadly, there is nothing positive to say about Entourage at all and it really is one of the most boring and pointless movies that I have seen this year. It is sad to see some really good acting talent going to waste with this film; let's hope that the likes of Grenier and Piven leave these roles behind for good and concentrate on some better film projects and meatier roles.
