With Captain Marvel being the latest release in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel geeks like myself can indulge in the many Easter Eggs, comic book references, and any of the mid or post-credits scenes that Marvel love to shower us with.

The film was a perfect origin story for the titular superhero, teeing her off to become one of the most powerful beings in the MCU and a big player in reversing the consequences of Thanos’ decimating snap. Some of the most talked about features of the movie are how it is going to link to upcoming instalments, such as Avengers: Endgame, and to see if it reveals any clues about the future of the MCU.

So, before you read below, I must warn you, SPOILERS AHEAD.

Captain Marvel was and still is proving to be a very successful and popular release for the MCU. Whilst I can still wallow in the delights of the film, my eyes are now beginning to look towards Avengers: Endgame.

This film revealed a look into the next instalment of the MCU as it showed the titular hero appear behind Black Widow, as the remaining Avengers tried to strengthen a signal that was emitting from the pager that Nick Fury dropped when he fell victim to the snap at the end of Infinity War.

As we know from Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers upgraded Fury’s pager, allowing him to intergalactically contact her in the future. We obviously now know that the Avengers will somehow acquire the pager in Endgame. Will Danvers join the Avengers? Most likely.

If you rewatch the trailers for Endgame, you can notice a sizeable gap in between the line-up as they march towards a mission. Are the producers shielding her from us? Who knows! They could be double bluffing. But what we can certainly take from Captain Marvel, is that she’ll play a vital part in taking down the mad titan. I reckon she’ll be the one to rescue Tony Stark and Nebula, but we’ll have to wait and see. She’s definitely one of the strongest superheroes I’ve ever seen on screen.

Now, other than some massive links to the MCU, Captain Marvel scarcely reveals anything about post-Endgame. We know that the Tesseract was the source of her powers and that Fury named the Avengers Initiative after her Air Force callsign. (We also know that Goose is the reason why Fury lost his eye).

The only assumption I can muster is that the MCU will take to the stars and explore the galactic side of the comics. After Carol protects the Earth from Ronan the Accuser’s ballistic missiles, the high-ranking Kree official remarks that they will come back for her. Does this mean that the Kree could potentially return to threaten Carol?

My assumption is strengthened by the fact that Adam Warlock was revealed at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 2. This means we could see a whole new side of Marvel in the near-future, with cosmic characters such as the Living Tribunal and Kang the Conqueror being introduced.

I raise my glass up to you again Marvel; thank you for another epic!

Captain Marvel is available to watch in cinemas across the UK now.
