I am a huge fan of Studio Ghibli movies and it is always exciting when one of their animation movies is on the horizon.
When Marnie Was There is the latest offering from the studio and is set to hit the big screen this summer. If you are an animation film fan, then this is a movie that you cannot afford to miss.
The first trailer for the film has been unveiled and we have it for you to take a look at:
When Marnie Was There is an adaptation of the novel by Joan G. Robinson and will see Hiromasa Yonebayashi in the director's chair. Yonebayashi is no stranger to Studio Ghibli movies having worked as an animator on a string of projects and directed Arrietty.
It was back in 2010 when Arrietty was released and When Marnie Was There is the first film for Yonebayashi since the success.
The director has assembled a wonderful voice cast for the English version for the film as Kiernan Shipka, Hailee Steinfeld, Kathy Bates, Ellen Burstyn, Catherine O'Hara and John C. Reilly are all on board.
A touching tale of love, loneliness, and friendship, When Marnie Was There is the story of an emotionally distant adolescent girl, who upon being sent to live with relatives in the countryside becomes obsessed with an abandoned mansion, and infatuated with a girl who lives there; a girl who may or may not be real.
The film has been described as "Ghibli Gothic," with its moonlit seascapes, glowing orchestral score, and powerful dramatic portrayals that build to a stormy climax.
Studio Ghibli has delivered some wonderful movies over the years and recently - The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and The Wind Rises are two of the most recent successes, both films were met with critical acclaim.
When Marnie Was There looks set to continue that fine Studio Ghibli tradition of delivering movies that are wonderful stories and packed with great and interesting characters. I cannot wait to see what the studio delivers this time around.
When Marnie Was There is released 10th June.
