If there is one summer movie that I am looking forward to the most, then it is seeing Ian McKellen playing Sherlock Holmes in Mr Holmes.
Yes, this summer is not all about the big budget blockbusters as McKellen returns to the big screen for a great new crime drama.
Mr Holmes will mark the first time that McKellen has taken on this iconic figure of British literature... and yet, this is a Sherlock Holmes as we have never seen him before. This is an older Holmes who is looking back on his life and a case that remains unsolved.
The brand new trailer for the film has been released and this is a movie that will explore a man's morality as well as looking back at an old case that haunts Holmes.
Mr Holmes sees McKellen reunite with director Bill Condon for the first time since Gods and Monsters, while the film is based on the novel by Mitch Cullin - which was in turn inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle.
A great cast has been assembled around McKellen, as Milo Parker, Laura Linney, Roger Allan, and Philip Davis are just some of the great names on board.
McKellen is one of the greatest British actors of his generation and has thrilled fans on screen and stage during his career. Mr Holmes is a movie that really gets under the skin of this infamous character and I can't wait to see McKellen tackle his role.
Mr Holmes was met with great reviews when it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, and I can't wait for it to finally hit the big screen.
In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company.
Cantankerous, demanding, and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson's best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago, that ultimately led to his retirement.
Mr Holmes is released 19th June
