Duncan Jones is one of the most exciting directors around and he is set to return this summer with his latest film Warcraft - which is set to be the biggest movie of his filmmaking career to date.

Jones grabbed everyone's attention back in 2009 when he made his feature film directorial debut with the fantastic Moon. For me, Moon is one of the best directorial debuts of all time and really did make just about everyone sit up and take note of this new filmmaking talent.

Warcraft is his first film since Source Code back in 2011 and this is the first time that we have seen Jones tackle a big budget blockbuster film project. As well as being in the director's chair for Warcraft, Jones has also teamed up with Charles Leavitt to pen the film's screenplay.

Warcraft is based on the hit computer game of the same name and will be the first time that it has been adapted for the big screen. The film looks set to mix fantasy, action, and adventure and is set to be one of the must-see films of the year.

While I am not particularly knowledgeable of the Warcraft world, it is a movie that I cannot wait to see because of Jones. It will be interesting to see him tackle such a huge project that will be driven by CGI - So far, he has delivered movies that are character driven and I can't wait to see him find that balance between character/story and special effects.

The director has brought together an impressive cast as Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Robert Kazinsky, and Toby Kebbell are just some of the names on board.

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction.

From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people, and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

In recent years, we have seen few computer game inspired films enjoy critical and commercial success - at times, this genre of film has been a real disaster. Could Warcraft be the film that bucks that trend? With a rumoured budget of $100 million, this is a film that really does need to succeed.

The first trailer was an exciting one and really did promise much. However, it is the return of Jones that I am most looking forward to and it is great to see him showing his versatility as a filmmaker.

Warcraft is released 3rd June.
