I love movie posters and we have been some treated to some wonderful film artwork over the years.

Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth

We look back over the last decade - in which there have been some terrific movies - and look at some of the best film posters. Do you have a favourite?

- Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

It is hard to believe that it has been a decade since Pan's Labyrinth hit the big screen and it still remains one of Guillermo del Toro's best films.

Pan's Labyrinth is a wonderfully dark fairy-tale and this poster really captures the dark and rather grim tone of this stunningly beautiful film.

Del Toro seamlessly blends the fantasy and fantastic with the cold and gritty harshness of reality with a range of strange and beautiful characters and sets that delve into a child's wild imagination.

This particular poster for the film was designed by Faction Creative.

- Waltz With Bashir (2008)

While Waltz With Bashir was a film that tackled the tricky subject of war, it was one of the most beautiful animation films to hit the big screen in 2008.

Written and directed by Ari Folman, the movie follows the filmmaker as he tries to reconstruct his own memories of his service during the conflict in Lebanon in 1982.

Designed by AllCity, the poster captures the animation style of the film, which is a mix of animation, war, documentary, and fantasy.

- Wall-E (2008)

For me, Wall-E is one of Pixar's greatest movie triumphs; who knew that a film where the central character says very little could be so powerful and emotional. But that is what Pixar delivered with this 2008 film.

Wall-E was the most ambitious project for Pixar since Toy Story and this movie really did demonstrate everything that this genre could achieve. It is just a wonderful film that is visually stunning.

However, it is a simple story about Wall-E looking for companionship... and that is something that this simple poster captures. There is a melancholy feel to this piece of artwork as Wall-E gazes to the stars.

- Where The Wild Things Are (2009)

One of the best movies of 2009 came in the form of Where The Wild Things Are, which was a big screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by Maurice Sendak.

The movie saw Spike Jonze back in the director's chair - he also teamed up with Dave Eggers to pen this fabulous screenplay.

Where The Wild Things Are is a beautiful, dark, funny, and charming tale about leaving your childhood behind, and it is totally heartbreaking. This is a movie for anybody who has ever run around screaming, climbed trees, rolled in the dirt, then laughed about it afterwards, we all remember those days when life was innocent and carefree.

I love the playful mystery of this poster - you capture a glimpse of one of the 'Wild Thing' without fully seeing them.

- District 9 (2009)

When it comes to directorial debuts, District 9 is up there as one of the best of all time as we were introduced the directing talents of Neill Blomkamp, who also teamed up with Terri Tatchell to pen the film's screenplay.

Starring Sharlto Copley in the central role, the movie is set in Johannesburg where aliens are humans are living side by side... but things are now peaceful.

As well as being an action packed movie, Blomkamp cleverly weaves into a message of racial prejudice and how we judge on appearance, which works beautifully.

I love both of these posters; the one on the left really does ram home how the humans feel about their alien neighbours. While the one of the right gives you a sense of the scale of this movie. The spaceship looming over the city is one of the most iconic images from the film.

- The Dark Knight (2008)

It was back in 2008 when director Christopher Nolan brought The Dark Knight, which was the second film in his Batman film series, to the big screen. It remains one of the greatest comic book films of all time.

The movie follows Christian Bale's Batman as he comes face to face with the Joker for the first time - played fabulously by Heath Ledger.

A terrific series of posters were designed for the film - I really could have picked any of them to feature - but it is the Joker poster that was the standout piece for me.

Designed by BLT Communications, LLC the poster really captures the theatrical flair of this character without giving too much of what he looks like away. Great poster!!!!

The Dark Knight

- Crimson Peak (2015)

Sadly, Crimson Peak didn't quite live up to what I was expecting when it hit the big screen last year but it did boast one of the best posters of the year.

This Mondo piece of artwork was designed by Guy Davis and really captures the gothic feel of Guillermo del Toro's film.

There's a creepy intrigue to this poster that I just love - it was one of the best movie posters of 2015 and made quite a stir when it was debuted Comic Con last summer.

Crimson Peak

- A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2015)

A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night was one of the most talked about films on the festival circuit last year and was a huge critical hit when it was released.

The movie was feature film directorial debut for Ana Lily Amirpour - she also penned the screenplay - as she made the leap from shorts for the first time.

Amirpour makes a little bit of history with this movie, as it is the first Iranian Vampire Western ever made. It is a refreshing take on the vampire genre as Amirpour mixes elements of horror, western, with some beautiful film noir to make a standout film that is unlike anything that I have seen.

This unusual movie was accompanied by a striking art deco style poster and was one of the best horror posters of last year.

- Black Swan (2011)

I imagine that Black Swan was a tricky film to market and some of the film's poster were a little underwhelming... but then they delivered a set of beautiful art deco pieces of artwork that were just stunning.

The posters were designed best British studio LaBoca and took inspiration from Czech and Polish posters of the sixties and seventies.

The set of four feature Portman's character and the Black Swan as the two start to become one as obsession about this role takes hold - which is a driving theme in this movie.

With these posters, the bar on movie artwork was well and truly raised as they are just beautiful.
