I know that we are only in March 2014, but there are already so many movies set to hit the big screen in 2015 that I am already excited about: seriously, it is going to be one of the best blockbuster years EVER!!
We take a look at some of the movies that are set to be massive and take the box office by storm next year. Which ones are you particularly looking forward to?
- Avengers: Age of Ultron - released 1st May
The film of 2015 that I am personally most excited to see is Avengers: Age of Ultron. I am such a huge fans of the Avengers Assemble, and this promises to be bigger and better than its predecessor.
Joss Whedon is back in the director’s chair, and filming is already underway in Italy: there have been images of Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson on set this week.
Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Renner are some of the familiar faces as they reprise the roles of Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, Hulk & Hawkeye.
However, there are plenty of new faces to watch out for, as Olsen and Taylor-Johnson are set to play Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. James Spader is on board as Ultron, while Paul Bettany has landed the role of The Vision.
The plot itself is being kept under wraps, but it is set to be a huge shoot filming in Italy, Seoul, Johannesburg and London.
Avengers Assemble remains the highest grossing Marvel film of all time, but with the excitement around Age of Ultron growing, it could well do over a billion dollars worth of business as well next summer.
- Bond 24 - released 23rd October
Another of the big movies of 2015 comes in the form of Bond 24. The movie is the first since the huge success of Skyfall in 2012, and I cannot wait to see how they try to follow up that success.
Daniel Craig is back as 007, in what will be his fourth outing in the role. After plenty of speculation, Sam Mendes is also back in the director’s chair, while John Logan is penning the screenplay once more.
So far, no official announcements on the cast have been made, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Ben Whishaw are all expected to return as Mallory, Miss Moneypenny and Q. Fiennes revealed earlier this year, that the film wouldn’t start shooting until the autumn.
While nothing is known about the plot, Logan has already hinted that Bond 24 will continue some of the themes that we saw in Skyfall.
Skyfall hit the big screen in 2012, and went on to be the most successful Bond movie of all time. Will Bond 24 be able to live up that success?
- Star Wars: Episode VII - released 18th December.
One of the movies that just about everyone is talking about is Star Wars: Episode VII, mainly because there have been no official announcements on who is going to star in the film.
Just about everyone in Hollywood is rumoured to have met with director J.J, Abrams to discuss the project; the likes of Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugo Weaving, Saoirse Ronan and Simon Pegg have been linked to roles at one point or another.
Are we going to see stars from the original franchise make an appearance? There has been a lot of talk about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford making a return. While Fisher made is seem like a certainty, Hamill said earlier this year, that is was far from a done deal.
This is set to be the first film in a planned third trilogy, and it will also be the first Star Wars film since Disney bought LucasFilm back in 2014 for over $4 billion.
Star Wars: Episode VII will mark the return of J.J. Abrams to the director’s chair since Star Wars Into Darkness last summer, and filming is supposed to get underway in May.
- The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 - released 20th November.
2015 will be to a close to The Hunger Games franchise, a series of films that have, so far, been incredibly faithful to the much-loved novels.
If anyone has seen Catching Fire, you will know that director Francis Lawrence was building up to an epic two-part conclusion, as Mockingjay will bring the franchise to a triumphant close.
The good new is Francis is staying with the franchise for the final two movies, and I really cannot wait to see how the devastating conclusion to the books plays out on the big screen. Are they going to stick with the original story?
Jennifer Lawrence will be back as Katniss Everdeen, while Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson are all back.
We will be introduced to Julianne Moore’s Alma Coin in Mockingjay - Part 1, and she will be back for Part 2. Natalie Dormer is another new face to watch out for, as she takes on the role of Cressida in the final instalment.
With just two movies, The Hunger Games has become a billion dollar franchise, and that success looks set to continue over the next couple of days; Mockingjay Part 2 could be the most successful instalment in the franchise.
- Inside Out - released 31st July
No film year is complete without a Pixar movie hitting the big screen, and 2015 is going to introduce us to Inside Out for the first time.
Inside Out is set to be a brand new film, as Pete Docter returns to the director’s chair for the first time since the wonderful Up back in 2009. He has had a hand in the story, but Michael Arndt has penned the screenplay.
Inside Out is a film that is told from the perspective of the emotions inside the mind of a little girl; it looks set to be one of the most original animation movies of 2015.
As we have come to expect with any animation film, a great voice cast has been assembled as Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader and John Ratzenberger are all on board.
Pixar have made some truly terrific movies over the years, and have really been leading the way in this genre. With quite a few sequel projects on the horizon, it is great that we are going to be introduced to a new story and series of characters.
- The Fantastic Four - released 18th June.
Another superhero film to watch out for in 2015 comes in the form of The Fantastic Four, as this gets a reboot for a completely new franchise.
The casting for the movie has only bee finalised in the last few months, and Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell are on board as Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm.
Doctor Doom is set to be the villain for the film, but no one has been cast so far; the likes of Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne and Toby Kebbell were just some of the names believed to be in the pipeline.
The movie will mark the return of Josh Trank to the director’s chair for the first time since he made his debut with Chronicle - needless to say, this is the biggest directing gig of his career to dare.
The Fantastic Four is a Marvel cartoon, but Marvel does not own the rights, and it is 20th Century Fox that will be bringing the new reboot to the big screen.
Filming on The Fantastic Four is not yet underway, but a sequel to this 2015 film has already been announced, and it will be released in 2017.
- Assassin’s Creed - released 6th August
Assassin’s Creed is a movie that has been in the pipeline for some time, and it looks like we will see this film drop in the summer of next year.
Assassin’s Creed is the latest computer game to get the big screen treatment; Scott Frank and Michael Lesslie have been brought on to pen the screenplay.
So far, Michael Fassbender is the only name that is on the cast list - he has been linked to this film for quite some time - he also looks set to produce alongside Jean-Julien Baronnet, Frank Marshall and Conor McCaughan.
However, there is not a director aboard the project as yet. Fingers crossed that we will see this film on the big screen next year.
- Ant-Man - released 17th July
Ant-Man is one of the new Marvel franchises that will be launched in 2015 - it not only has the task of kicking off Phase Three of Marvel films, but it has the unenviable task of being the first film after Avengers: Age of Ultron.
The movie will mark the return of Edgar Wright to the director’s chair, as he directs a Marvel film for the first time: this will be the biggest film of his directorial career to date. Wright has also teamed up with Joe Cornish to pen the screenplay.
The Ant-Man cast list is turning into quite an exciting one, as Michael Douglas will star as Hank Pym and Paul Rudd is also on board as Scott Lang. Patrick Wilson has been the latest addition, while Evangeline Lilly and Michael Pena have also been linked with the project.
Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.
Phases One and Three have been about establishing Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Avengers, and Phase Three is going to be an exciting period as we look set to be introduced to more than one new franchise.
- Jurassic World - released 12th June
It was back in 1993 that Jurassic Park hit the big screen for the first time; it remains the best movie in the Jurassic Park franchise.
Jurassic World is the fourth film in the franchise, and the first since Jurassic Park III back in 2001 - the least said about that movie the better.
Colin Trevorrow has been chosen to helm the film, in what will be his first movie since he made his feature film debut with Safety Not Guaranteed back in 2012.
Chris Pratt is already a name to watch out for this year, as he is set to lead the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy as Peter Quill. Jurassic World looks set to be another big franchise under his belt as he is set to take on the lead role.
Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins and Jake Johnson are some of the other names that are on the cast list.
While nothing is know about the plot as of yet, Trevorrow has revealed that it will be set twenty-two years after events of the first film.
