2014 is set to be the year of the impressive cast list; we have already had the likes of 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, and August: Osage County to get excited about.
They may have had some impressive line-ups, but there are even more on the way as we go through the year. We take a look at some of the cast lists that will make your eyes water.
- The Monuments Men - released 14th February
The Monuments Men is one of the early movies of the year that I have been really excited about, as George Clooney brings together a fab cast.
Clooney has penned the screenplay, is in the director's chair, and leads an all-star cast: a cast that includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin and Hugh Bonneville.
Clooney has revealed that he wrote the script with many of the actors in mind and managed to get those he wanted in his latest film.
The Monuments Men is the first directorial outing for the Oscar winner since The Ides of March, and is based on the book by Robert M. Edsel & Bret Witter.
An unlikely World War II platoon are tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners.
- The Grand Budapest Hotel - released 7th March
Wes Anderson has made a strong of terrific movies during his career, and he is famed for bringing together large and super talented casts.
The Grand Budapest Hotel continues that fine tradition, as there are recognisable faces in almost every role.
Ralph Fiennes leads the cast, and is joined by Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe and Adrien Brody - to name but a few.
The Grand Budapest Hotel has been playing well on the festival circuit, and opened the Berlin Film Festival last week.
The Grand Budapest Hotel recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.
- The Amazing Spider Man 2 - released 18th April
The Amazing Spider Man 2 is set to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2014, as we see Andrew Garfield return to the title role.
Garfield is not the only familiar face returning, as Emma Stone, Martin Sheen and Sally Field are also back; there is also no change in the director's chair as Marc Webb returns.
However, there are some terrific new additions to the cast list as Jamie Foxx, Paul Giamatti, Dane DeHaan, and Chris Cooper take on the roles of Electro, The Rhino and Harry & Norman Osborn.
There are some great casts on show in the blockbusters this year, and The Amazing Spider Man 2 is set to be one to watch out for.
It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone).
But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city.
- X-Men: Days of Future Past - released 22nd May
X-Men: Days of Future Past has the best blockbuster line-up of the year as stars from X-Men: First Class come face to face with actors from the original trilogy.
Just about everyone who has starred in an X-Men film is on board, while Bryan Singer returns to the director's chair for his first X-Men film since X2.
Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, and James McAvoy are back, while Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellan, and Patrick Stewart are some of the most exciting actors from the original trilogy.
There are some new names to watch out for, as Peter Dinklage will star as Bolivar Trask and Evan Peters is on board as Quicksilver.
The movie follows Wolverine as he is set back in time to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.
- Interstellar - released 7th November
Interstellar is one of the most anticipated films of the year, as Christopher Nolan is set to return to the director's chair.
The movie sees Nolan tackle the sci-fi genre as he returns to the helm of the movie for the first time since The Dark Knight Rises.
It will come as no surprise that actors have flocked for the chance to work with Nolan, as Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley, Topher Grace, Casey Affleck and Michael Caine are all on board.
The movie follows a group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
It is going to be another strong year for science fiction and Interstellar promises to be one of the standout films.
- How To Catch A Monster - no UK release date yet
We all know how great an actor Ryan Gosling is, but 2014 is going to give us a chance to see his directing skills.
Yes, Gosling is set to make his feature film directorial debut with How To Catch A Monster; a screenplay that he has also penned.
For his first film, he has assembled a very exciting cast as Saoirse Ronan, Matt Smith, Christina Hendricks, Eve Mendes, Ben Mendelsohn, and Iain De Caestecker are all on board.
A single mother is swept into a dark underworld, while her teenage son discovers a road that leads him to a secret underwater town.
Every year we see actors make the leap into the director's chair, but Gosling's debut is one of the most anticipated.
- Guardians of the Galaxy - released 1st August
Guardians of the Galaxy will be the second of two Marvel films to be released this year; not to mention it will be the first time that we will be introduced to these characters for the first time.
As more and more Marvel films have been released, the cast lists have got more and more impressive; Guardians of the Galaxy really does boast the most star-studded yet.
Chris Pratt will take on the central role of Peter Quill - this will be the biggest movie of his career - and is joined by Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Karen Gillan, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close.
The movie follows Peter Quill, who finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by villain Ronan.
However, when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
- Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - released 29th August
For Sin City fans, this second movie really has been a long time coming; it comes nine years after the release of Sin City back in 2005.
Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez are back in the director's chair as Miller's graphic novel is once again adapted for the big screen.
Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Jamie Chang, Rosario Dawson, and Jamie King are some of the familiar faces returning. However, there are some new actors on board, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Juno Temple, and Josh Brolin are also set to star.
Other movies with terrific casts to watch out for this year includes The Hunger Games: Mockingjary - Part 1, The Hobbit: There And Back Again, Her and Noah
The Monuments Men is released 14th February.
