If you don’t like hearing profanities littered throughout the films that you go to see, then perhaps The Wolf of Wall Street is not the movie for you.
Yes, the latest offering from Martin Scorsese has more swear words that you can shake a stick at as he reunites with Leonardo DiCaprio for their fifth film together.
To celebrate the release of the film, we take a look at the movies that top the list when it comes to using the work f***.
1. Fuck - a documentary on the word
It may come as no surprise to find that a movie that explores the word f*** would actually be the film tops this chart.
The documentary was released back in 2005 and saw Steve Anderson returned to the director’s chair for the first and only documentary film of his career so far.
In just ninety-three minutes, the word f*** is uttered a staggering 857 times: over three hundred times more than in the movie in second place. That works out at 9.21 uses per minute. Will this F-bomb total ever be surpassed?
2. The Wolf of Wall Street
The Wolf of Wall Street is only hitting the big screen this week and it has already made it in at number two on this F-bomb countdown.
The Wolf of Wall Street is directed by Martin Scorsese and is based on the memoir by Jordan Belfort. The film charts the rise and spectacular fall of this former Wall Street broker; Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the central role of Belfort in the film.
DiCaprio one had this butter wouldn’t melt, clean cut image - but that goes totally out of the window with this film.
F*** is uttered a whopping 506 times during this films’ 179 minute run time - that is 2.83 uses per minute.
3. Summer of Sam
Summer of Sam was released back in 1999 and was a crime thriller that saw Spike Lee back in the director’s chair.
The film is Lee’s take on the Son of Sam murders in New York during the summer of 1977,
centring on the residents of an Italian-American South Bronx neighbourhood who live in fear and distrust of one another.
John Leguizamo, Adrien Brody Mira Sorvino and Jennifer Esposito were all on board. Summer of Sam comes in at number three on this list as the f-word is dropped 435 times.
Summer of Sam has a run time of 142 minutes and that resulted in f-word being spoken just over three times a minute.
4. Nil By Mouth
British film Nil By Mouth celebrated its fifteenth anniversary back in 2012 and marked the directing and writing debut of actor Gary Oldman.
Ray Winstone, Kathy Burke and Charlie Creed-Miles all starred in a film that followed a dysfunctional family that was blighted by drugs and violence.
This gritty drama may have been a critical hit, but it has made it in at number four on our countdown. F*** is uttered 428 times during the 128 minute movie - that works out at 3.34 times a minute.
5. Casino
Casino is a second Martin Scorsese movie to make our list - it is also a movie that will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary next year; yes, it really was released back in 1995.
The movie was based on the book by Nicholas Pileggi and saw Scorsese reunite with Robert De Niro in what was their last film together.
Greed, deception, money, power, and murder occur between two mobster best friends and a trophy wife over a gambling empire.
In a run time of 178 minutes, the F-bomb was dropped 422 times - that averages out at 2.4 times a minute. In addition, it is Joe Pesci doing most of the swearing.
6. Alpha Dog
Nick Cassavetes returned to the director’s chair in 2006 with Alpha Dog - a movie that he directed as well as wrote.
The movie brought together a great cast that included Bruce Willis, Emile Hirsch, Justin Timberlake and Anton Yelchin, and is based on the
life of Jesse James Hollywood, a drug dealer who became one of the youngest men ever to be on the FBI's most wanted list.
In just 118 minutes the word f*** was used 367 times, which worked at 3.1 times a minute.
7. End of Watch
End of Watch is the most recent movie on our list after The Wolf of Wall Street, as it hit the big screen back in 2012.
Directed by David Ayer, this hard-hitting cop-drama saw Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena play LAPD officers and partners - Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez and Frank Grillo were also on board.
Shot documentary-style, this film follows the daily grind of two young police officers in LA who are partners and friends, and what happens when they meet criminal forces greater than themselves.
End of Watch rounds off our countdown as the F-word was used 326 times during the 109 minute movie. That is an average of 2.99 per minute.
Other movies that drop the F-bomb left, right and centre include Twin Town, Goodfellas, Running Scared, Narc and Harsh Times.
