Autumn 2014 is set to be a super exciting time if you are a film fan as there are a whole host of great movies set to hit the big screen.
There is something for everyone this autumn, as the line-up is packed with comedy, drama, thrillers, sci-fi, and great book adaptations.
We are looking forward to a whole host of films this autumn, but there are six we are particularly looking forward to.
- Before I Go To Sleep - released 5th September
Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth team up for the second time this year as they are set to star in Before I Go To Sleep.
Before I Go To Sleep is a big screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by S.J. Watson, and marks the return of Rowan Joffe to the director's chair: this is his first film since he made his debut with Brighton Rock in 2010.
Before I Go to Sleep follows a woman who wakes up every day remembering nothing - the result of a traumatic accident in her past - until one day, new terrifying truths emerge that force her to question everyone around her...
Kidman and Firth are set to play husband and wife in the film, while Mark Strong and Anne-Marie Duff are also on board.
Before I Go To Sleep promises to be a really tense watch and is one of the standout thrillers of the autumn.
- Pride - released 12th September
There is a great selection of British movies to watch out for this autumn, but Pride is the one that I am particularly excited about.
If you haven't seen the trailer yet you really should check it out as it looks like it is going to be incredibly funny.
The movie is based on a true story, and sees Bill Nighy, Andrew Scott, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, and Paddy Considine all on a terrific cast list.
Pride tells the true story of how a group of lesbian and gay activists joined forces with a small Welsh mining community in 1984, supporting them during their darkest hour.
Pride was met will when it screened at the Cannes Film Festival, and promises to be one of the most uplifting films of the year. I really cannot wait to see it!!!
- The Judge - released 24th October
We haven't seen Robert Downey Jr in a lead film role since the massive success of Iron Man 3 last summer, but this autumn he is back in The Judge.
The Judge marks a change of pace for director David Dobkin, as he moves away from comedy projects such as The Change-Up and Fred Claus for this courtroom drama.
Downey stars as big city lawyer Hank Palmer, who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge (Duvall), is suspected of murder.
He sets out to discover the truth and along the way reconnects with the family he walked away from years before.
Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, Billy Bob Thornton, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Melissa Leo complete a mouth-watering line-up.
As much as I love Downey Jr as Tony Stark, it is great to see him back in a film drama and a role that he can really get his teeth into.
- Interstellar - released 7th November
If there is one director that I am excited to see this autumn, then it is the fantastic Christopher Nolan.
Nolan hasn't helmed a film since the success of The Dark Knight Rises, but now he is back with new sci-fi epic Interstellar: this is a film that has been whipping up a storm all year.
Matthew McConaughey takes on the central role in the film, alongside Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, and Casey Affleck.
Interstellar chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Nolan is one of the most exciting directors working in Hollywood today, and I can't wait to see the look and the scope of space that Nolan is going to create.
We have already been treated to some great sci-fi films this year, but Interstellar really is promising to top the lot.
- The Imitation Game - released 14th November
I know that we are only in July, but there are some movies that are already surrounded in awards talk... The Imitation Game is one of them.
Benedict Cumberbatch will return in the central role of Alan Turing, as he teams up with director Morten Tyldum for the first time.
The movie will follow Turing as he is instrumental in helping crack the Enigma code in the Second World War.
Cumberbatch is already a major rising star, but The Imitation Game could well be the role that cements him as a major film leading man.
He is joined on the cast list by Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, and Matthew Goode.
We all know how much the Academy loves a biopic film, and The Imitation Game could well be an Oscar contender at the beginning of next year.
- Kill The Messenger - released 28th November
Another film that is being tipped as a possible awards contender is Kill The Messenger, as Jeremy Renner returns to the big screen.
Kill The Messenger is another biopic film, as Renner takes on the role of journalist Gary Webb, while Michael Cuesta is in the director's chair.
A reporter becomes the target of a vicious smear campaign that drives him to the point of suicide after he exposes the CIA's role in arming Contra rebels in Nicaragua and importing cocaine.
Renner is joined on the cast list by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Michael Sheen, Robert Patrick, and Ray Liotta.
I love a good political drama, and Kill The Messenger is set to be one of the standout films in this genre this autumn.
Other movies we are super excited for include Fury, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, and Gone Girl.
