I know that we not even half way through 2015 but it looks like 2016 is going to be a very exciting film year - there are a handful of films that we are already super excited about here at FemaleFirst.

Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad

Some of those 2016 films are being filmed right now and, for some, we have less then twelve months to wait until they will be hitting the big screen and thrilling audiences.

We take a look at some of the movies where the cameras are currently rolling and the cast lists that have been assembled for those films.

- Suicide Squad - released 5th August 2016

Suicide Squad is already one of the most talked about films of 2016 and is set to be one of a handful of comic book movies that you will not be able to miss.

Suicide Squad will be just one of the DC Comic movie projects on the slate for next year as David Ayer returns to the director's chair for the first time since Fury - this is also the first time that the filmmaker has tackled a comic book project.

Ayer has brought together a terrific cast list and is set to be one of the best ensembles of next year. Will Smith is set to lead the cast and is joined by Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Scott Eastwood, Viola Davis, and Cara Delevingne. There is also a chance that we may see Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg make an appearance as Batman and Lex Luthor.

The movie is set to follow a group of imprisoned supervillains who are recruited by a secret government agency to undertake dangerous black op mission in return for clemency.

We have seen a couple of images from Suicide Squad so far and the cast look terrific - I really cannot wait to see Oscar winner Leto as The Joker. Suicide Squad is going to be one of the must see films of next summer - and one of the biggest at the box office.

- Eddie The Eagle

Dexter Fletcher is one of my favourite British filmmakers around at the moment and he is set to return to the director's chair with new sport film Eddie The Eagle.

Fletcher made his directorial debut back in 2012 with Wild Bill - after making the leap from being in front of the camera - before going to bring musical Sunshine on Leith to the big screen. Eddie the Eagle will be the first time that he has tackled the sport biopic and is his biggest directing project yet.

Eddie the Eagle is one of the most iconic of all of Great Britain's sportsmen - he became the first ski jumper for GB to enter the Olympics. Simon Kelton and Seam Macaulay have teamed up to adapt his story into a screenplay.

Taron Egerton, who has enjoyed success this year with Kingsman: The Secret Service, will take on the central role of Eddie Edwards. Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken are also on board.

Filming got underway in Germany in the beginning of March. The movie will be released in April 2016 in the U.S. - no UK release date has yet been announced for the film.

- Captain America: Civil War - released 29th April 2016

If there is one 2016 film that I absolutely cannot wait to see then it is Captain America: Civil War. Filming got underway last week and will be the third standalone Captain America film that comes hot off the heels of events - and success - of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Anthony and Joe Russo are back in the director's chair for their second Captain America movie - they steered The Winter Soldier to box office success and critical acclaim last year. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are also on board the project and have teamed up to pen the screenplay.

Civil War is already one of the most talked about movies this year as the cast keeps on growing and growing - seriously, there has been a new cast member announced every week for weeks.

Chris Evans is back in the central role of Steve Rodgers, while Scarlett Johansson and Anthony Mackie will be reuniting with him as Black Widow and Falcon. Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Bettany will be stepping into the Captain America franchise for the first time as Iron Man, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and The Vision.

There are also some new faces to watch out for as Daniel Bruhl and Martin Freeman are on board, while we are also going to get our first look at Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther - he is set to star in his own solo film in 2018.

Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Evans has hinted that Civil War will set up the 'real battle' that lies ahead in Avengers: Infinity War and it really does look set to be the biggest Captain America movie yet.

- Zoolander 2 - released 12th February 2016.

It was back in 2001 when Zoolander hit the big screen for the first time. The movie introduced to Derek Zoolander and Hansel and gave us our first look at Blue Steel. Fans have been calling for a sequel for years... and now filming on Zoolander 2 is underway.

By the time Zoolander 2 hits the big screen next year, fans of the first film will have been waiting fifteen years for this sequel as Ben Stiller returns to the director's chair. Stiller has teamed up with Justin Theroux to pen the screenplay.

Stiller and Wilson are back as Zoolander and Hansel, while Will Ferrell and Christine Taylor are also reprising their roles as Mugatu and Matilda Jeffries.

Oscar winner Penelope Cruz and Kristen Wiig are two of the big new additions. It looks like we are also going to get some great cameo performances - Lewis Hamilton is just one of the faces that we will be seeing in the movie.

Not too much is known about the film's plot except that Zoolander and Hansel are both modelling again.

- X-Men: Apocalypse - released 19th May 2016

2016 is going to be a great year if you are a fan of the comic book movie and X-Men: Apocalypse is one of the movies where filming is currently underway.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was one of my favourite movies of last year and marked the return of Bryan Singer to the director's chair of the X-Men franchise - it was X2 when he last helmed a movie in this series.

He is back with X-Men: Apocalypse and I am excited to see where he takes this franchise after the huge critical and commercial of Days of Future Past. Work on the script started early last year and filming on Apocalypse has now got underway.

X-Men: Apocalypse is another of the cast lists of 2016 that is growing and growing as we have seen a whole host of new names join the franchise. Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Olivia Munn are on board as Apocalypse, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Psylocke. We might also get our first glimpse of Channing Tatum as Gambit.

James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult are back as Professor Xavier, Mystique, Magneto, and Beast, while Evan Peters and Rose Byrne are set to reprise their roles as Quicksilver and Moira MacTaggert.

While the plot of X-Men: Apocalypse is currently a closely guarded secret, Singer has been dropping little hints to fans with some images on his Instagram page. We have already got a first look at Sophie Turner on set and we are going to see a bald McAvoy as Professor X for the first time.

- The Free State of Jones

Matthew McConaughey is one of the most in demand stars after picking up a Best Actor Oscar for his stunning performance in Dallas Buyers Club last year and he has a lot of exciting movies on the horizon.

One of those projects comes in the form of The Free State of Jones, a film that McConaughey is currently filming in New Orleans and Lafayette in Louisiana.

The Free State of Jones marks the return of Gary Ross to writing and directing duties for the first time since he enjoyed success with The Hunger Games back in 2012.

The Free State of Jones is set during the Civil War and tells the true story of anti-slavery Confederate deserters in Jones County, Mississippi. McConaughey will take on the central role of farmer Newton Knight, who leads a group of rebels.

McConaughey is joined on the cast list by Keri Russell, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali, Jacob Lofland, Sean Bridgers, and Brad Carter.

The Free State of Jones is promising to be one of the early must see dramas of 2016 and could well be the kind of movie that finds itself in the Oscar mix at the beginning of next year.

The Free State of Jones is released 11th March 2016 in the U.S - no UK release date has yet been announced.

- Deadpool - released 12th February 2016

We first saw Ryan Reynolds take on the role of Wade Wilson for the first time in X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009 - ever since, there has been talk about a possible Deadpool stand-alone film.

It looks like all hope for his project had disappeared but Reynolds has get the faith and finally a script is in place and filming has got underway. The hardcore fans of the Deadpool character do seem quite excited about the prospect of this solo film.

Deadpool will mark the feature film directorial debut for Tim Miller as he makes the leap from short films for the first time. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also on board having teamed up to pen the screenplay.

Reynolds is set to take on the role of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool and he is joined on the cast list by Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein, and Brianna Hildebrand.

The movie is set to follow a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers and adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

- The Jungle Book

We are going to be treated to a couple of The Jungle Book movies - one in 2016 and one in 2017 - and they are both currently filming. However, it is the Jon Favreau directed film that we are focusing on here.

Favreau has brought us movies like Elf, Iron Man and Iron man 2 during his filmmaking career, but The Jungle Book will be his first outing in the director's chair since Chef last year.

The movie is an adaptation of the well-known tale by Rudyard Kipling and has been adapted by Justin Marks.

Neel Sethi will take on the central role of Mowgli in what will be his big screen debut. An impressive voice cast has been assembled as Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Lupita Nyong'o, Christopher Walken, and Scarlett Johansson will bring Shere Khan, Baloo, Bagheera, Raksha, King Louie, and Kaa to life.

The Jungle Book will hit the big screen in the U.S. on 15th April 2016 - there is still no word on a UK release date.
