Thor: The Dark World

Thor: The Dark World

We have already had one mammoth Marvel hit on our hands hit year in the form of Iron Man 3 but this autumn sees Thor: The Dark World hit the big screen.

Thor is the role that has made Chris Hemsworth a star and we see him return to the part for the first time since Avengers Assemble dominated the box office last summer.

This is the second stand alone film for this character - we were introduced to Thor for the first time back in 2011.

Hemsworth is not the only familiar face on the cast list as Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins are all back.

But there are some new faces to watch out for as Christopher Eccleson plays villain Malekith while Zachary Levi takes over the role of Fandral.

While there are plenty of people returning to the sequel it is all change in the director's chair as Alan Taylor takes over from Kenneth Branagh.

The TV buffs amongst you will know Taylor as one of the director's being Game of Thrones - which just so happens to be the best thing on TV.

Thor: The Dark World continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.

In the aftermath of Avengers Assemble, Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos...but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

2011 movie Thor was a great introduction to this character and The Dark World looks set to be bigger and more epic than the first.

Marvel can do no wrong at the box office at the movie and Thor: The Dark World has 'hit' written all over it.

Thor: The Dark World is released 30th October,
