The Revenant was the toast of the Baftas as it scooped five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Revenant was expected to do well at the ceremony on Sunday night as DiCaprio was the red hot favourite to scoop Best Actor. He already has a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance and now looks unstoppable as we head towards the Oscars.

Alejandro G. Inarritu lost out on the Best Director awards twelve months ago to Richard Linklater but got his hands on the prize this time around. He saw off stiff competition from Todd Haynes (Carol), Adam McKay (The Big Short), Ridley Scott (The Martian), and Steven Spielberg (Bridge of Spies).

While The Revenant won Best Picture at the Golden Globes, it was Spotlight that triumphed at the SAG and it looked like it was going to be a battle between these two movies. While it was The Revenant that tasted success in London, the journalism drama could still prove to be a force to be reckoned with at the Oscars.

Like DiCaprio, Brie Larson made it three major Best Actress wins out of three as she added the Bafta to her Golden Globe and SAG award for her stunning central performance in Room. It looks like she is now a heavy favourite to scoop her first Oscar in just under two weeks' time.

The supporting categories have been much tighter with Sylvester Stallone and Idris Elba sharing the spoils at the Golden Globes and SAGs. However, it was Mark Rylance who triumphed for his performance in Bridge of Spies.

Kate Winslet was another actor flying the British flag as she scooped Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Steve Jobs. She saw off tough competition from Rooney Mara (Carol), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), and Julie Walters (Brooklyn). The race for the Oscar is still wide open.

Inside Out and Amy were heavy favourites to win the Best Animated Feature and Best Documentary prizes and there were no shocks as they both triumphed.

The screenplay categories say Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer scoop Best Original Screenplay for Spotlight while Adam McKay and Charles Randolph won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Big Short.

On the night, Mad Max; Fury Road was another big winner as it won four awards: Best Production Design, Best Costume Design Best Makeup & Hair, and Best Editing.

The EE Rising Star is the only category that is voted for by the public and it was John Boyega, who has shot to fame with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, who walked away with the gong. He saw off competition from Taron Egerton, Bel Powley, Dakota Johnson, and Brie Larson.
