The Hunger Games has been one of the best franchises to hit the big screen in recent years and, sadly, it is all set to come to an end this autumn with Mockingjay - Part 2.
I don't know about you, but The Hunger Games has been one of the best young adult novel adaptations and, so far, have been incredibly faithful to the terrific books by Suzanne Collins. I am going to be sad to see this franchise come to an end but it really is promising to go out with a huge bang.
Katniss Everdeen is one of the greatest big screen heroines of the last few years and it is the role that really sent Jennifer Lawrence's star rocketing - she perfectly captures the strength and the vulnerability of this great literary character and you cannot see anyone else in this role.
Mockingjay - Part 2 sees Francis Lawrence back in the director's chair for what will be his third film in the series - The Hunger Games is the only movie that Lawrence has not been at the helm of.
There are plenty of familiar faces on the cast list as Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Sam Claflin, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore and Natalie Dormer are all set to return. This will also be the final time that we will see Philip Seymour Hoffman on the big screen.
There is also one great new addition to the cast list as we will be introduced to Gwendoline Christie as Commander Lyme.
With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends - including Gale (Hemsworth), Finnick (Claflin), and Peeta (Hutcherson) - Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.
The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
Anyone who has read the final book will know how the story ends and I cannot wait to see the explosive finale and if the director and writers are going to stay faithful to the book. Or will they change the ending? There's not long to go now until it hits the big screen.
So far, The Hunger Games has grossed over $2.307 billion at the global box office with Catching Fire the most successful with a worldwide box office gross of $864.9 million.
I think Mockingjay - Part 2 could well go on to be the most successful film in the series and one of the highest grossing movies of the year. Could it be the first Hunger Games film to gross over $1 billion?
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 is released 19th November.
